The Penn State student chapter of of ASCE aids in in the professional and and intellectual advancement among its members and and forms bonds of of of friendship The The chapter is one one of of of the the original seven founded in in in 1920 They are also one one of of of of the the the largest ASCE student chapters in in in the the the country with a a a a a a a a a a current membership of of about 175 students Penn State ASCE hosts their own fall fall and and spring career career fair fair fair and and the the the the the fall fall event is is one of the the the the the largest student-run career career career fairs in the the the the nation This year’s career career fair fair fair will be be held at at at the the the the Penn Stater Hotel and Conference Center on on on on November November 3–4 with interviews scheduled on on on on on November November 5 The chapter also organizes events like professional professional licensure talks professional professional paper presentations and company information information sessions For more information information visit pennstateasce com com com Interested students may contact PennStateASCE@gmail com com Structural Engineering Institute (SEI)

In the the 1960s a a a a a a a a small number of ASCE student chapters began holding intramural concrete canoe races with the the first official ASCE Concrete Canoe Competition held in in in in in 1988 The annual competition requires civil engineering students to design construct and and race a a a a a a a a a a canoe composed of concrete and and reinforcement according to provided specifications as outlined in in in in the the official competition rules The canoes are judged on on on on on design floatation presentation and placement within the the races This past year the team placed second in in in a a a a a a a a a a a a a virtual competition creating a a a a a a a a a a a a a a new design for a a a a a a a a a a a a a a fictitious canoe and passing along knowledge to younger members Interested students may contact psuconcretecanoe@gmail com Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE)
The Penn State chapter of ITE supports undergraduate and graduate graduate students with an an an interest in in in in in in transportation engineering in in in in in in in the the pursuit of their studies by providing opportunities for learning from guest speakers and networking with ITE’s professional membership The student chapter also competes in in the annual ITE ITE Collegiate Traffic Bowl a a a a a a a a a a a a Jeopardy-style quiz bowl between student ITE ITE chapters focusing on on on transpiration engineering This year the the the chapter’s Traffic Bowl team won
