Title
Evacuation Recovery
Recovering from a disaster is usually a gradual process. Safety is a
primary issue, as are mental and physical well-being.
Only return to a home/work site once instructed by local authori-
ties and/or authorized EPIC personnel. Be prepared to have photo
identification available. EPIC provides photo ID’s to individuals and
employees to be utilized during an emergency.
When returning, make sure the site is safe to enter. Do not enter if
there is any color coded sign or colored tape over doors and/or
windows. Staff should remain in contact with their PA/immediate
Supervisor until the staff and individuals are safely back in the
home/work site.
Protocols Checking Utilities and Major Systems —
Electrical Systems
•
If you see sparks, broken or frayed wires, or if you smell hot
insulation; evacuate the site and notify the utility company.
Additionally call the PA/Immediate Supervisor and/or the
Facilities Director to receive further instructions.
Telephones
• Check each telephone to see if it is still on the hook.
• If you do not have a dial tone, try unplugging all telephones.
Plug in one at a time and listen for dial tone.
• If the event affected only your home, contact your
PA/Immediate Supervisor using a cellular telephone or a
neighbor's phone to report the problem and to request repair
services.
Loss of Data
• In the event of a loss of records/data, contact your supervisor
to report the loss and any need for access to the lost records.
