Evacuation

All of the emergency conditions outlined in this policy may require
individuals and staff to either be evacuated and/or taken to emer-
gency shelter in an EPIC home/work site or a community shelter.
In each of the emergency scenarios, the safety of the individuals and
staff is EPIC’s priority and will dictate all decisions made by the
         agency.
As a general practice, keep a full tank of gas in the vehicle if an evac-
         uation seems likely.

If evacuation is required the following steps
         should be followed:

         • Tune in to TV stations airing local updates and/or radio station
(battery/crank operated radios are available at each site). Protocols
         • Gather your disaster supplies/Go Kits.

         • Contact PA/Immediate Supervisor for instructions including
             where to go.
         • If time permits secure your home/work site by closing and
locking doors and windows. Unplug electrical equipment, such
as radios and televisions, and small appliances, such as toasters
and microwaves. Leave freezers and refrigerators plugged in
unless there is a risk of flooding.

         • Assist everyone into the vehicle, with Go Kits and drive to the
location provided by your PA/Immediate Supervisor.
         • Communicate your condition upon arrival to the new location.

         • If staff at an agency site hears about a government-issued evac-
uation order, and they have not been contacted by their Pro-
gram’s Director/HR about the situation within 15 minutes,
they are to attempt to contact agency personnel.
