Dear Parents/Guardians,
As residents of Keyport and Union Beach, please be assured that Keyport High School will make every
effort to support the academic, personal, social and emotional growth and progress of your child. The
program of studies guide that follows is just a snapshot of how we plan do just that, providing you with a
convenient reference guide of all the courses offered at Keyport High School in the 2018-2019 school
year. We encourage you to review this document carefully and assist your child as he or she selects a
course of studies for this coming year.
This year, the Guidance Department began the scheduling process by assessing your son or daughter’s
transcripts, report cards, test results, and teacher recommendations. He or she will be presented with a set
of academic and remedial courses based on this data. In individual conferences with his or her guidance
counselor, each student will select elective courses to round out his or her course requests. A printout of
these course requests will be given to each student to bring home for parental review. You have the right
to object to your child’s recommended courses or electives. For any changes to a student’s elective
course selection, simply note the change on the course request form and sign and return it to Guidance.
For academic course changes, you can access a Waiver Form from the Guidance website under the
Guidance Forms tab or request a hard copy in Guidance. If you sign this document and your child has
met all course prerequisites (if there are any) and return it before April 1, we will honor your request.
Please assist your child in this process. Because we develop, schedule, determine course offerings, and
even the number of sections offered based on this data, it is important that you choose carefully.
Sometimes irrevocable decisions are made based upon the number of students who have requested a
course or even a level of course.
We are available for any questions you may have and we are eager to help our students through this
process. We are anxious to help your child to flourish here at Keyport High School!
Sincerely,
Joe Palumbo
