SCHEDULING
The Guidance Departments believes all students should be treated as individuals with unique
goals and needs. Students should approach the scheduling process thoughtfully and by
defining goals:
1) What are my short-term educational goals? If a student intends to attend college,
certain decisions must be made regarding a course of study (see COLLEGE
PLANNING).
2) What career goals do I have in mind?
Students should be mindful about what their current grades and test scores indicate about
their strengths and weaknesses and try to identify areas of improvement for the coming
school year. In developing a plan, students should make every effort to challenge themselves
while also keeping graduation requirements in mind.
SCHEDULE PLANNING
The scheduling process requires collaboration between students, parents, counselors, teachers,
and administrators. Some of the guidelines for this process are as follows:
The scheduling process requires collaboration between students, parents, counselors,
teachers, and administrators. Some of the guidelines for this process are as follows:
• Each year, students must be enrolled in 40 credits unless other arrangements are
approved by the administration.
• Elective choices are tentative until all academic requirements are met.
• Elective courses have limits as to the number of students who may be accommodated.
The scheduling process will prioritize academic needs/requirements over elective
choice. When more students request a course than can be accommodated, priority for
enrollment will be given to upperclassmen when possible.
• The administration and guidance department foresee almost no reason for a change of
schedule after the school and parents have had an opportunity to review
recommendations and requests. Requests for a change after this review process
window has closed may not be accommodated and will be reviewed on an individual
basis.
• Reasons for a schedule change will be limited to: a) computer error during scheduling,
b) addition of a required class, c) addition of a graduation requirement for a senior, d)
addition of a course required by prospective college, e) adjustment due to successful
completion of a summer school course.
