II Sunday In Ordinary Time

A Reflection of the Gospel of Today
This Sunday’s readings invite us to reflect upon the ways in which we bear witness to our faith in our
contemporary society. In the First Reading, Isaiah proclaims that God called him from his mother’s womb to
announce salvation, not only to the tribes of Jacob, but to all nations. John the Baptist, in the Gospel, points to
Jesus, and after naming him as the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world, bears witness to the
manner in which the Holy Spirit descended upon the Lord. In the Second Reading, Saint Paul introduces his
ministry and that of his companions as having its origins in Christ Jesus. These liturgical texts impel us to share our own faith
experiences with others in the midst of a social setting that frequently prevents us from doing so. It would be beneficial for the
various ministerial groups of the parish to reflect on these readings and for some to share positive stories in which their witnessing
to the Lord and to the Church caused changes in those around them. Such sharing could very well inspire the rest of the group in
       their ministerial commitment.
We pray to the lord Readings for the week of January 19, 2020
