Unusual Coloured Racehorse shines spotlight on Phoenix Rising Farms
Deborah Holmes has a knack for breeding horses and has relatively  own under the radar when it comes to recognition of her Thoroughbred mating successes.
Deb and her husband Barry are the names behind Phoenix Rising Farms. A small breeding operation based out in BC.
Phoenix Rising Farms is the breeder of three horses that all won races in the same week at Woodbine late last year. Casablanca Kiss and Goldrush Glory were both winners on November 26 and Ellan Vannin won her  rst two starts on Nov. 19 and Nov. 30.
Casablanca Kiss, a 2009 KY bred mare now owned by Ken Lee, Dennis Mitchell, and Gaye & Don Bell and trained by Marty Drexler has won 9 races with
9 seconds and 10 thirds in 39 starts and more than $360,000. Originally owned by Janice Attard and trained by husband Sid, Casablanca Kiss was a popular claim in 2013 going to the barns of trainers Arthur Silvera, May 17 claim for owner D. Rowbothan & partners and Mike De Paulo, July 28 claim for owner Bear Stables Ltd. She recorded wins for each of her previous connections as well as 5 wins for
current owners who claimed her on October 13, 2013. Goldrush Glory, a now three-year-old BC bred
owned by Deb’s husband Barry Holmes, was a winner in her second start at Woodbine late last year. She raced in Allowance Optional Claiming company at Gulfstream Park in Florida in late December 2016 and again in March 2017 with trainer Kelly Callaghan. The  lly is entered to run in the Starshoot Stakes April 16 at Woodbine.
Ellan Vannin, an ON bred Stakes winner, notched back to back wins including the Ontario Lassie Stakes at Woodbine for owner Jonathan Lee and trainer Tony Gattellaro in her only two career starts last year.
The now three-year  lly is the second foal out of the Chiefswood Stables bred and raced mare Vulcan Rose (Fusaichi Pegasus) who Phoenix Rising Farms purchased out of the 2012 Keeneland November sale in foal to Niigon.
Ellan Vannin, by Spring at Last, was RNA ($19,000) at the 2015 CTHS Ontario Division Canadian-bred Yearling Sale and was sold privately after the sale to Jonathan Lee.
