CHANGES TO URINE COLLECTION CONTAINER
Starting May 1st, 2017, the CPMA will be using a new urine collection container for their equine drug control program. The new container is a sterile, medical grade 100ml plastic container, similar to what is currently being used for human urine samples. The collection procedure will remain the same and there will be no effect on the CPMA’s Policy Paper P‐006, Sample Residue Release.
Horsepeople should note that effective May 1st, 2017, official samples of urine will have a minimum required volume of 15ml. If, after one hour, less than 15ml’s of urine has been collected, the same will be discarded and a blood sample withdrawn.
UPDATE TO PREVIOUS MEMO RE: ITEMS ALLOWED IN THE RETENTION AREA
After receiving feedback from the horsepeople; on March 28th, 2017, the CPMA released a memo revising their initial Notice to the Industry dated September 16, 2016 regarding the number of buckets allowed in with a horse called to the test barn and the prohibition of towels in the retention area.
The CPMA recognized that several tracks find it difficult to provide both drinking water and water to cool a horse. Therefore, effective immediately, horsepeople will once again be able to bring two buckets into the retention area with a horse called for testing.
In regards to the CPMA’s decision about bring towels into the retention area. The concern continues to solely be around any substances that may be contained on the towel. Therefore, the CPMA has advised racetracks that they may, should they choose to, stock clean towels within the retention area for use.
