STEP 2 Continue making wraps, and tuck the last wrap through the
bight. Make sure the wraps are tightly side by side.
STEP 3 Tighten by pulling both ends, so that the crossing stays in the
middle of the wraps.
The length of the whipping should be at least as long as the diameter
of the rope. If you are tying the whipping over three-strand rope, the
direction of the wrapping should be opposite to the direction of the
strands. The ends can be trimmed close or knotted together with a Reef
Knot (see Chapter 6).

Start coiling the rope by folding it in half and making the turns with the
doubled line, or by making the turns from one end to the other.
STEP 1 After wrapping all but the last two to four feet, depending on
the size of the coil, fold a long bight in the end.
