Dr Joy Odili
Consultant Plastic Surgeon
Joy is Britain’s first black female consultant surgeon. Science, Medicine & Engineering
She specialises in plastic and reconstructive surgery
at St George’s University NHS Foundation Hospitals,
London and is an honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer St
George’s University.
Joy also practises from the private Hospital of St John
and St Elizabeth, Wimbledon’s Parkside Hospital, The
Wellington Hospital and the Portland.
She graduated from Glasgow University Medical School
and, as part of her postgraduate training, conducted
research looking at the detection and treatment of malignant
melanoma. She was awarded an MD by the University of
London and has presented her research internationally.
In 2002, she was awarded a Hunterian Professorship
by the Royal College of Surgeons for her research into
malignant melanoma. She is part of the INSPECT group,
formed by several European hospitals looking at the
treatment of skin cancers with electrochemotherapy. The
past year has been spent developing electrochemotherapy
for patients with cancer in the skin and advanced breast
cancer. She is a member of the Government’s Melanoma
Taskforce, convened to develop strategies to tackle the rising
incidence and mortality rates from the disease.
Joy also has a special interest in general plastic surgery,
aesthetic and reconstructive surgery of the ear and breast,
vascular malformations, and post-bariatric (weight loss)
surgery. She sees both NHS and private patients for
Samantha Tross reconstructive and aesthetic/cosmetic surgery.

She graduated from University College London in 1992
then trained at Guy’s and St Thomas’s, completing her
orthopaedic training in 2004.
A Fellow of the Royal College of Orthopaedic Surgeons
and member of the British Hip Society, Samantha has had
Fellowship training in lower limb arthroplasty from the
world-renowned Orthopaedic and Arthritic Institute in
Canada as well as the Peninsula Orthopaedic Institute
in Sydney.
She practises at BMI Clementine Churchill Hospital,
Harrow Bupa Cromwell Hospital and Ealing Hospital
NHS Trust.
Tatler magazine featured her in its prestigious Doctors’
Guide which lists the country’s top 250 consultants. It
highlighted her “laid-back manner and skill in minimally
invasive surgery”.
Samantha regularly teaches medical students and is
an Examiner for Imperial College Medical School finals
examinations.
She is also an Associate Editor for the Journal of Medical
Case Reports.
She is a recipient of the Black British Business Icon
Award and has been invited back this year to be one of the
judges. In the coming months she aims to become more
involved with the Women in Surgery arm of the Royal
College of Surgeons.
