Patrick Clarke
Director of Network Operations,
UK Power Networks
Joining the London Electricity Board as an apprentice in
1978, Patrick has risen through the industry ranks
to the executive team of UK Power Networks (formerly
EDF Energy).
As Operations Director, he has day-to-day responsibility
for managing the distribution of electricity to 8 million
customers in East Anglia, Hertfordshire, Kent, Surrey,
Sussex and London. He is responsible for an annual budget
of more than £400 million and employs 3,600 people plus
2,000 contractors.
The role has included delivering infrastructure projects
for the 2012 Olympics, and managing the energy supply
for historic events including the Royal Wedding and the
Queen’s Golden Jubilee.
Patrick has been an executive director for the past 12
years, in a variety of roles including HR Director in EDF
Energy. He also undertakes international coaching and
mentoring of executive management teams. Awarded
an OBE in 2012, he also holds an Honorary Doctorate
& Engineering
in Engineering from London South Bank University. In
addition he is Prince Charles’s former Ambassador for
London (2008/09) for Leadership and Diversity.
In 2005, he co-authored Made in Britain, a book majoring
on inspirational role models from British BME communities.
He has been a special constable, chaired minority
ethnic mentoring project MERLIN, sat on the board of Race
for Opportunity and been a member of Business in the
Community’s London Leadership Team.
Since 2011, he has sat on the board of the charity
Urban Synergy, which gives young people from diverse
backgrounds the chance to spend time with positive role
models from a wide range of professions.
