It probably goes without saying that one of the most important and valuable assets any business can
have in today’s highly competitive marketplace is exceptional employees. This is especially true of
exceptional managers who groom and inspire subordinates to follow in their footsteps to become
career oriented individuals.
Deerfield Store Director Kevin M. personifies one of the Jewel-Osco Managers I speak of. I can validate my
claim based on six words Kevin said to me the first time we met. He said “we are in the people business.” Kevin
reinforced and demonstrated his belief in being in the people business recently when my spouse, 21 year
veteran of the company, fell and broke her arm at work.
Kevin’s sympathy, empathy and genuine concern for my wife’s misfortune, rehabilitation and future well-being
demonstrated he is indeed a people person first and a manager of people second. Perhaps this is one of
the many reasons Kevin M. garners such respect from the people who work for him and in my humble
opinion make him one of Jewel-Osco’s most valuable assets.
