Computer manufacturers pay Microsoft for every copy of Windows they install on a
computer they sell (XP, Vista, Windows 7, 8 and 10 - no idea what became of naming
one Windows 9). And that's the end of Microsoft getting money, unless a user pays Mi-
crosoft for an upgrade. And so, Microsoft is motivated to encourage users of older
Windows systems to get rid of them, and either purchase upgrades, or buy new com-
puters. Unfortunately for folks who still use Windows XP or Vista, Microsoft has kicked this
"encouragement" into high gear. It stopped upgrading Internet Explorer on those older versions, and for
some reason both Google Chrome and Mozilla's Firefox have followed along. Chrome is currently announc-
ing it will no longer update on XP and Vista, and word from Firefox is they will stop updating as of Septem-
ber of this year. I kinda suspect Microsoft was involved in these vendors deciding this.

This updating is pretty important, as browser code and website code changes and improves, non-updated
browsers will run into more and more websites where they will not be able to access the site, or things just
won't work right on pages they can access. Especially secure websites, like banking and bill paying web-
sites. I have been checking around, and found that a browser called Opera not only works on XP and Vista,
but makes a point of this - www.opera.com

I suggest all XP and Vista users try Opera. It reminds me somewhat of Google Chrome. If you use it, you
can click on the box of 8 rectangles next to the address box, which will open it's home page, and provide
icons for things like Bookmarks and Extensions. Not bad; not bad at all. And for XP and Vista users, it's
kinda the only game in town now.
