Chapter 9
Visiting the Villages
Back in Japan, Charles and Lettie sat high on a hill and
watched the sun go down behind the village rooftops.
Everywhere they looked, they saw hundreds of towns. God’s
voice entered their thoughts. Do you see those villages? I
visited them today. They are full of sad people with broken
hearts. The people are empty and follow after stone idols that
offer nothing. The voice whispered, “Will you go to the
villages and tell them about Me?”
“Yes, Lord,” answered Charles and Lettie. “We will go.”
God doesn’t want anyone to miss out on hearing the Gospel
of Jesus. But, the people in the villages had no one to tell them.
There was so much work to do. After the Japanese people gave
their lives to God, they had to learn how to stop worshiping the
idols that kept them from God. They had to begin studying the
Bible. There were so many villages and so many people. How
could the Cowmans begin to reach them all?
Charles began to get ideas. He liked working with numbers,
so he wrote down some information about Japan. The
population was 58 million. There were more than 10 million
homes. He would have to buy Bibles or portions of Scripture in
