Following his presentation and the details garnered from
the tour, members of the GMSA expressed the belief that the
Association was well-positioned to receive the benefits of the
oil and gas sector and the support services offered by the local
Business Centre.
GMSA President Shyam Nokta, who led the delegation,
commended Exxon for creating a hub that would allow
businesses to boost their capacity while contributing to the
efficiency and effectiveness of the emerging oil and gas sector.
According to Nokta, the GMSA saw the Centre as a focal point for
information on the sector and also as a very important institution
to help to build capacity to increase competitiveness for small
and medium scale entities in Guyana. The role of this Centre, he
noted, is much more than oil and gas, as in essence, it is here to
build capacity for the private sector.
The GMSA President highlighted the eagerness among the
Association’s members to tap into the sector as was well
demonstrated by the significant turnout at the familiarisation
tour.
“We have representing the GMSA, our seven sub-sectors, which
include agro-processing, services, forestry, wood products,
chemicals, pharmaceuticals and fast food. These are some of the
major subsectors of the GMSA, so we are looking forward to the
