There were multiple complaints and hate mail sent to Boom because
of her design choices. One that she mentions during an interview is when she compares some artists work to things she has seen before. It wasn’t meant to be a statement of right or wrong, it was just to say that they looked similar. Many artists weren’t
too happy about that. Though it was deemed a brilliant failure, Boom ended up winning her first best book award because of it. However, she did see all of the inconsistencies and decided she would create miniature mockups of the whole book to avoid these mistakes. These models are used to oversee how image and text is distributed in a “less confronting way”.
