’D nut’ forget the upcoming
holidays!
As we are approaching Shrove Tuesday a.k.a Pancake Tuesday (5th of March) and getting
prepared for the sugar rush, it is time to have a look at how our colleagues celebrate this
locally. Today we are talking to Pawel from Poland, who will tell us about Fat Thursday – the
Polish equivalent of Pancake Tuesday..
Name : Pawel Lubinski
Job title and length of service :
Customer Service Manager Poland. I have worked for
VF for 15 years now.
Tell me a bit about yourself :
I live and work in Warsaw, the capital city of Poland where I was also
born. Privately I am a father of two kids – Zuzanna (13) & Szymon (11).
During my free time I ride a motorcycle, go fishing with my kids or just spend time with
friends.
What is Fat Thursday ? And how do you celebrate it?
Fat Thursday is the last Thursday before Lent in the Christian calendar. It
begins in the last week of carnival. There is a tradition that You are allowed
to overfeed that day
In Poland we used to eat filled doughnuts, called “Pączki” during that day. A lot
of them. Some people even wait in line over an hour to get them from the
more famous bakeries.
What’s your personal donut eating record in one day ?
You do not want to know
What is your favourite donut ?
Traditional one filled with rose flavoured jam.
Would you have a special donut recipe you would like to share?
I was told it is quite easy to prepare “Paczki” but I did not try yet... Will do one
day.
