HOPE FOR HAITI

Tzu Chi volunteers returned to Haiti with the main purpose of building local volunteers’ capacity and
encourage them to identify additional indigent schools to serve. Durocher Kindergarten (Centre Prescolaire
Carmen Rene Durocher) is one of the schools identified, where local volunteer Mireille is president of
the school’s management board. Tzu Chi was privileged yet again to rebuild another needed community
school for the children of Haiti. The Solino Zone area, where the school is situated, is one of the poorest
communities in Port-au-Prince, and Durocher Kindergarten is the only kindergarten there.

DUROCHER KINDERGARTEN

Location: Solino Zone, Port-au-Prince
Total students: 100
Age range: From 3 to 5 years old. Due to limited educational resources in that area, some students, older
than 5 also study there.
Classrooms: Six classrooms
Resources: The water used in the school is provided by ACF and food is provided by Food for the Poor.
