discharged, on tracks not

maintenance, difficult &

challenging…..

…..it also resulted in severe
corrosion to track fittings &

premature failures.

Corrosion is estimated to result into annual losses, as a result of pre-replacement of corroded

rails, to be about Rs.440 crore.
Data analyses for 2000-07 shows that 37 per cent of the rails are replaced owing to corrosion

before the estimated lifetime.
