P. 5

Orpheus is a poet and a musician; the Muses taught him to play the lyre (in our version the bandoneon); his verses are so sweet and fascinating that he enchants all of nature and slows down the flow of torrents. Thanks to his music the Argonauts manage not to give in to the hidden dangers in the Sirens' song. Every creature loves Orpheus and is enchanted by his music and his poetry, but Orpheus has eyes only for a woman, Eurydice, a nymph of sublime beauty and grace, who becomes his bride. The beauty of Eurydice also burns the heart of Aristeo, a bee grower, who fell in love with her when he saw her naked while she was taking a bath in a pond and he tries to seduce her. To escape his insistence, Persefone starts running but has the misfortune to trample a snake hidden in the grass that bites her and causes an instant death.
