   ACT II
Orpheus, maddened because of the sadness of his bride’s death, decides to go down to the Underworld to take her away from the Realm of the Death. With his music he forces Charon, the ferryman from the Realm of the Death, to carry him to the other side of the Stige, tames Cebernus, the three-headed dog thar defends the entry of the Underworld, and convinces to the judges of death to letting him pass, despite the damned souls trying to grab him. Once in presence of Hades and Persephone, he begins to sing his despair and solitude, and his melodies are so full of sorrow, that the Lords of the Underworld are moved, the Furies cry, the wheel of Ission stops, the treacherous vultures stop devouring the liver of Tizio, and Tantalus forgets his thirst. For first time, we know pity in the Underworld.
