Lake Toba is a popular tourist attraction in North Sumatra, Indonesia. The lake’s size itself which is able to hold an island
called Samosir is an interesting feature that attracts a lot of attention from people around the world. However, Lake Toba
faces an environmental issue as the ecosystem are damaged by water pollution and deforestation. To approach this issue,
our project planned to crowdsource idea from the local there. Our project has 3 main stages being, idea collecting stages,
voting stages, and reward stages. Both voting stages and reward stages are included in order to ensure quality ideas and
mass participant. Voting stages will also act as a method to raise the public awareness regarding this issue. A qualitative
research will be done to determine our marketing plan. By tapping into the collective intelligence of locals and with an initial
operational cost of $15000, we hope our project will lead to improvement of the lake.

The aim of our project is to make use of crowd idea sourcing platform that would encourage and involve Lake Toba locals in contributing
ideas for the restoration of Lake Toba. Lake Toba is known as the second largest lake in the world. Despite that, Lake Toba has not gained
any cognition internationally as Bali is known for. In fact, locals in Lake Toba are facing environmental degradation as water quality keep
decreasing, a huge amount of fishes turned up dead, and widespread deforestation. We believe that getting ideas from locals, not limited to
tourists, are crucial to let the government know about the current conditions of Lake Toba and what problem needed to be solved. We are
planning to organize several events in Lake Toba that will attract foreigners and locals to take part in the development of Lake Toba. In the
end of the events, locals and foreigners will be prompted to fill in survey form about their experiences and what needs to be improved in
Lake Toba. We will also deploy our website using Gamification technique forcommunities to build a stronger relationship with Lake Toba
locals and acquire plenty of ideas. Finally, we believe Lake Toba will develop to be the better place for the local and international destina-
tion, even more realistic, 8th Wonders in the world!
