TRIBES AND TRIBULATIONS
This module is focused on the different conflicts that are taking place
across the globe today. The module will draw upon students’ previous
knowledge of current affairs, geography and history and it will also
build upon it greatly. The unit will look at various conflicts ranging
from violent inter-state battles between Pakistan and India or the
Palestine-Israel conflict to more local disagreements such as; the
Northern Ireland Troubles or those fought out through the courts and
protest such as the construction of the M3 motorway around the
Boyne Valley. While looking as such case studies students will be
given a brief introduction to the type of conflict, the scale on which it
is played out over, the causes of the conflict, the consequences of the
conflict before finally looking at the outcome of it or the attempts to
find a resolution. Students will be required to and encouraged to
complete further independent research into the conflicts to help
further their knowledge of the battle and form their own opinion on
which side if any they support. Students will be shown while looking
at these case studies that both History and Geography play a central
role in these conflicts, students will be shown how far many people
are willing to go to defend or maintain the history and geography of
their regions.
