Year 7 students have settled in and are
becoming skilled, enquiring Geographers.
They have recently been investigating
China and have produced some superb
work on topography, “Tourism” and “Life
in China.” They are now looking forward
to using their investigative skills to study
rocks and fossils and carry out fieldwork
after the Half Term holiday. YEAR7

N Year 8 are currently linking chronology
E and evolution through their studies of
the Geological Time Scale and the
“History of the Earth.” This will give them
M a deeper understanding to support the
upcoming topics of earthquakes and

volcanoes.

E Year 9 students have been tackling the complex issue of atmospheric
D circulation with Miss Duckworth using balloons to illustrate the
processes involved. They have been developing and practicing their
GCSE exam technique in recent assessments and a number of students
Y have achieved Grade 8 and Grade 9. This is an outstanding achievement YEAR9
illustrating how independent study and determination lead to success.
H Year 10 have now chosen their option subjects and due to the
P popularity of GCSE Geography the Department is expanding and we
are delighted to welcome Miss Sephton to the team in September.
A Exam technique is high priority and developing resilient independent
learners is key to success at GCSE. Students use Development Time
R in lessons to improve their answers and their knowledge of more

complex exam questions and command terms.

O This is an extremely busy time for our
Year 11 students. They are working
E hard revising for their looming GCSE
exams using knowledge organisers,
G retrieval grids and knowledge
accumulators. The recent field trip to
Strinesdale Country Park has provided
them with primary data to support Year 11 students completing
their completion of Paper 3 as well as Knowledge Accumulators to

invaluable experience outside of the consolidate their learning for
classroom. Paper 3.
