Principal
ou have accomplished an enormous amount, and you have even
Ygreater potential than when you began your studies here. You
have also matured emotionally and socially. Your newly acquired
education will serve you well throughout your life, and the Outspan
Medical College friendships and memories are ones I hope you return
to often.
Graduates, your achievements here are impressive, but you have not
realized success on your own. You have been supported by parents
and other family members, by friends, and by the Outspan Medical
College faculty, staff and other students. And many among you have
been supported by generous donors who provided scholarship gifts,
Helb Loans etc. Graduates, thank those who have supported you in Mrs. Lydiah Muthoni
realizing your success.
You have worked so hard to get to this day. You have listened and The Principal
learned, not only in Outspan , but also at the side of many of the
best clinicians across the County, many of whom are your fellow
students . Your family and your school are very proud of you. Please
take a few moments to be proud of yourself, and then look forward.
You know as well as we do that the work – and the fulfillment – has “You’ll never
only just begun.
You have chosen a profession that has great privilege but also great
responsibility. You are privileged to become an important part of the know what mys-
lives of your patients and their families. And be prepared to have
your heart broken. People will deny payments for things that you teries are written
know they shouldn’t. A single malpractice lawsuit, even if ultimate-
ly found to be unwarranted, will forever change you – not for the in the stars if
better – but for the worse. And your wife/husband and kids will still
be affected when you arrive home late after missing your daughter’s you do not look
dance recital even though she says, “that’s okay”.
But despite all of these realities, there remain some wonderful up to the skies
aspects of medicine. People still will look up to you. People will still
respect what you do and say. People will trust you, confide in you, with curiosity
and appreciate your efforts. Get involved in the process. Work to
set the needs of your patients before that of the system and you’ll and wonder.”
usually be rewarded.
Because in the end, this is what really matters.
These are challenging times for Health workers as we increasingly
encounter efforts to devalue all we’ve learned and experienced.
Work to make the system better. Stay strong, work hard, and appre-
ciate all you’ve got.
After all, there’s plenty of people who would give anything to be in
your shoes.
Good luck and God bless each and every one of you.
