Huntsville, Alabama
Huntsville, Alabama is the Nation’s biggest
technology hub, and is consistently hiring
more college STEM graduates than any
other city in the United States (even more
than Silicon Valley!). The city is nicknamed
"The Rocket City" for its close history with
U.S. space missions. Huntsville has been
important in developing space technology
since the 1950s. While in Huntsville, the US
Space and Rocket Center is a must see
attraction. This educational center predates
NASA, and is an in-depth study of
mathematics, engineering and technology.
During the visit, students will gain entrance
to the US Space and Rocket Center and will
take a tour of both the Shuttle Park and
Rocket Park. Students will experience
public museum simulators, and then will go
through a hands-on laboratory with a
Center instructor, witness a live
presentation and enjoy an IMAX Movie
experience. In addition to the technological
experiences you can provide your
students with while in Huntsville, the city is
rich in historical significance. You can
choose to give your students a tour of the
scenic Burritt on the Mountain - one of the
few locations in the US that was home to
both Union and Confederate forces. Your
students can get a firsthand look at the role
Huntsville played in the Civil War, or can
focus on the beauty of such places at the
Huntsville botanical gardens.
