  the
wigs of rococo
Written by Antonia Darlene
My name is Antonia Darlene
I started my career like most hair stylists in cosmetology school experimenting on my own hair until I had but mere dehydrated tendrils left. However, I knew there was something different between me and the vast majority of my classmates, I had zero interest in working in a salon. People who go into a salon need something, i.e. a hair cut or a quick color, highlights, or some grey coverage, but I wasn’t interested in the everyday styles and the monotonous
shampoo/style. No! I needed to be entertained!
The first show I did wig design for was Cinderella. This entertained me very much! But I ran into issues fast. I had very limited resources and a theatre department that couldn’t spare more. I was given a box with three wigs in it that looked like someone had just finished mopping with them, and tons of extension hair pieces that were in complete shambles. I must have used more than two bottles of conditioner and by the time I was finished brushing through the matts barely one strand of hair remained on any of the wigs. I was in deep and my paddles got lost in the wads of hair that lay strewn all over my living room floor. Needless to say I was crying by this point, but during my moment of defeat I learned a very important lesson!
