The Dragon and Lion Dance Troupe was formally formed in July 2003 and it is a Tier-
1 member club of NTU Cultural Activities Club (CAC). We also organise the annual
NTU Institutional Lion Dance Competition, which aims to promote lion dance at the
institutional level.
In 1991, the Pugilistic & Lion Dance Troupe was formed. It was set up to promote the
ancient art of lion dancing to both the school population and the public, while providing
an opportunity for interested young undergraduates to explore this art form. Members
are trained in Southern Lion He Shan style. Since then, the Pugilistic Section was formed
independently and the Troupe expanded into Dragon Dance.
The troupe has been invited to perform the Dragon and Lion Dance within and beyond
the campus. With the recent partnership with NTU’s Welfare Services Club, we ushered
in the Chinese New Year on campus, celebrating inclusiveness during the festive season.
We also performed for company functions and seminars, Chinese New Year Cai Qing in
homes, as well as charity performances such as Relay for Life in 2019.
Our training sessions are only on Wednesdays, 6.30pm - 9.30pm. Regardless of any
prior experience, we warmly welcome you to join our troupe!
