¶ T[he] book of the • beginning of the • generation of • [the] gospel of Jesus Christ, • the son of
David, the son of Abraham • the Son of God; • [forasmuch] as many have taken in hand to set forth in
order a declaration of those things which are most surely believed among us, [e]ven as they delivered

them unto us, which from the beginning were eyewitnesses, and ministers of the word; [i]t seemed
good to me also, having had perfect understanding of all things from the very first, to write unto thee in
order, most excellent Theophilus, [t]hat thou mightest know the certainty of those things, wherein thou

hast been instructed. •

¶ I[n] the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The
same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing
made that was made. In him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shineth in

Naasson begat Salmon; [a]nd Salmon begat Booz of Rachab; and Booz begat Obed of Ruth; and Obed
begat Jesse; [a]nd Jesse begat David the king; And David the king begat Solomon of her that had been
the wife of Urias; [a]nd Solomon begat Roboam; and Roboam begat Abia; and Abia begat Asa; And Asa

begat Josaphat; and Josaphat begat Joram; and Joram begat Ozias; [a]nd Ozias begat Joatham; and
Joatham begat Achaz; and Achaz begat Ezekias; [a]nd Ezekias begat Manasses; and Manasses begat
Amon; and Amon begat Josias; [a]nd Josias begat Jechonias and his brethren, about the time they were
carried away to Babylon: [a]nd after they were brought to Babylon, Jechonias begat Salathiel; and
