Man mistakenly raises
black bears as 'puppies'
for two years
A man who spent the last two years
raising two beloved pet dogs has had
a bit of a shock after they turned out
to be two BLACK BEARS. The pair of
'puppies' Wang Kaiyu bought and
raised at his home in Maguan County
in southwest China's Yunnan Province,
have turned out to be two Asian black
bears.
Ursus thibetanus are classed as a pro-
tected species in China and require a
permit to be bred. The dog owner no-
ticed that the bigger his pets got, the
larger their appetites - even occasion-
ally preying on his farmed fowl.
Armed police storm cafe in
search of thief - which
turns out to be 'ghost'
Police officers stormed a cafe armed
with Tasers after the owner spotted a
burglar on CCTV. But when the offic-
ers arrived at the premises it turned
out the shadowy 'suspect' was a some-
thing a bit spookier.
Michael Bristow, 50, dialled 999 after
he noticed a sinister dark figure sneak-
ing around his coffee shop on his live
camera feed. Four officers armed with
Tasers rushed to Larders Coffee House

in Louth, Lincolnshire, at 10.30pm on
June 24, but there was no burglar and
no sign of a break-in. After examining
the CCTV footage again, Mr Bristow
is convinced his coffee shop must be
haunted.
Dog in MP holds Aadhar
card
A man in Madhya Pradesh is paying a
hefty price for ignoring the fact that his (named changed), 34, lay on an opera-
dog was not, in fact, human.
Mohammad Azam Khan, a supervisor
at the Umri Aadhar card centre, took
his love for his pet to a whole new
level by getting an Aadhar card made
for it. The card was issued to Tuffy.
The matter came to light after one of
the locals, Akhilesh Singh Yadav filed a
police complaint saying the local
Aadhar centre had issued a card to a
dog, even as he had been made to run
from pillar to post to get one made for
himself. Mr Khan has now been ar-
rested and police have confiscated the
dog's Aadhar card. They are also try-
ing to find out if more cards have been
issued to animals.
Fish bone in lungs for 7 yrs
A fish bone which remained stuck in the
lungs of a 37-year-old man for seven
years, was removed by doctors at a
private hospital in Kochi. The patient,
an Omani Military Service personnel,
had flown to the Amrita Institute of
Medical Sciences and Research Centre
recently from Muscat after repeated
hospitalization for pneumonia over the
past several years.

sangeet while docs cut
open brain
It was a concert without parallel. Sarita

Encouraging her were the doctors who
were operating on her brain.
Given a peculiar condition Sarita was
suffering from, doctors at Sita Bhateja
Hospital, where the woman from
Burdwan was operated on last week,
had to keep her communication abili-
ties active during the three-and-a-half-
hour long surgery.
While the procedure was on, Sarita
was asked questions like, 'Name the
days of the week', count one to 100
and back, with the musical perfor-
mance thrown in between.
"Sarita was diagnosed with a tumour
on the left side of her brain, close to
the region that controls speech and
comprehension abilities. We wanted to
ensure she didn't lose her speech post-
surgery," said Dr Arvind Bhateja, neu-
rosurgeon, whose team conducted the
surgery.
