TAYO A. POPOOLA

              Tayo Adegboyega Popoola is an attorney licensed to practice law in California and Georgia. He retired from the Los

              Angeles City Attorney’s Office in April 2016 after several years of service. While at the L.A. City Attorney’s Office, he

              defended the City of Los Angeles in state and Federal courts in civil lawsuits involving land use matters and police

              misconduct cases alleging, among other things, wrongful death and civil rights violations. His practice at the Office

              included trial and appellate advocacies, and he also advised numerous city administrative agencies. He was also a

              prosecutor for the first two years of his career in the Office. Currently, Tayo is in private practice, specializing in

              appellate advocacy. He is also a legal                                                                                consultant.  Tayo grew up in Oyo

              State, Nigeria, where his parents                                                                                        were school teachers.  He went to

              elementary and secondary schools                                                                                              in the state, before attending

              the then University of Ife, Ile-Ife                                                                                          (now Obafemi Awolowo University)

              for two years. He then transferred to                                                                                the University of Illinois at Chicago,

              where he graduated in Chemical                                                                                                Engineering in 1977.

              After a few years of working as a                                                                                                           chemical engineer at the

              du Pont and Monsanto companies.                                                                                     It was during this tenure that he met


              and married his lovely and beautiful                                                                                  wife, Helen. After a few years, they
              decided to leave the quiet of Iowa and he proceeded to graduate school. First, he attended Georgia State University in


              Atlanta, where he obtained his M.B.A. in 1982. This was more familiar environment for Helen who had earlier spent a

              few years in Atlanta graduating with a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from Atlanta University. They then

              moved to Connecticut where Tayo went to the University of Connecticut School of Law, obtaining his J.D. a few years

              later. Tayo and Helen reside in California, close to their son Kola and Tayo;s siblings, where he is involved in numerous

              community activities and associated with different professional and charitable organizations. He enjoys running,

              bicycling and working out in general. He is also a fan of several sports, especially international soccer.
