Covid-19
It was noted that the BDMs were the most affected by the Covid-19 lockdown.
They were unable to travel and had to do consultations with farmers by way of
electronic media. They also did on-line training and all documents were
available on request. A facilitator was appointed to assist the BDMs with
professional development.
All other sections such as Business Intelligence and Consumer Education and
Communication went ahead as previously. A SAPPO staff communication
group was set up and postings on it were done on a daily basis. It was very
successful, and the staff is closer than before.
To assist with the phasing in returning to the office, a protocol was drafted for
the staff as well as a work schedule to ensure that not all come to the office at
once. People wanted to come back.
At the Executive Board meeting that took place on 13 May the members
agreed that SAPPO could assist the staff members with medical expenses in
the unfortunate event that someone might attract Covid-19.
Kgadi Senyatsi ensured that the BDMS are well protected when visiting farms.
They will pair up per vehicle to visit farms that was willing to receive them for
the first two weeks.
Higher glass partitions between the desks will be installed and all staff was sitting
the required distance apart.
The members were comfortable with what was done during the lockdown time
as well as the precautions taken.
