8. MANAGEMENT REPORT
8.1 Financial Reports
The meeting noted that Board members had approved the
financial report as presented in the board pack.
There is a law firm appointed to get the outstanding levy funds from
abattoirs.
The budget for 2020 has to be presented at the February meeting.
It was noted that Willie Miller was appointed as Chairman of the
Audit Committee.
8.2 Consumer Assurance
Pork360
R&R Abattoir and Bloemfontein Abattoir have become Pork360.
The farm audits are going well, and it is expected that all the audits
will be done by the end of November.
Woolworths still require full audits on their standard but are
considering the idea of accepting Pork 360. Pic n Pay may well only
use Pork 360 from 2020 as the welfare standards on sow housing
would be aligned. The SAPPO Welfare Code is eight (8) weeks and
producers must accept that all should be under 8 weeks
commencing 1 January 2020.
If SAPPO can convince the retailers to buy into SAPPO’s auditing
system SAPPO there would be no need for independent audits per
retailer. SAPPO’s auditors should be accredited to do all the audits
and no additional audits will need to be paid for.
Decision:
Johann Kotzé must negotiate with the retailers that they all accept
Pork 360 as a basis. The auditors would then only be required to
certify additional requirements that individual retailers may have. EB

Stephen Butt supported stronger emphasis on food safety. Food
safety should become an important component of Pork 360
standards.
