9. GENERAL
9.1 Subpoena
Enterprise and Tiger Brands tried to subpoena laboratories to get
information from abattoirs on testing done. The RMIF and AMIE were
successful in getting it stopped.
Enterprise started with the second round of subpoenas by
subpoenaing producers. They want full access to information.
Subsequently, the RMIF resolved to apply to the courts to have the
subpoenas set aside.
Dr Peter Evans was asked to contact all the farmers who were
subpoenaed to inform them that the RMIF was handling the case
on behalf of the industry. Producers should send their subpoenas to
the RMIF’s lawyers. SAPPO must not get directly involved.
Decision:
SAPPO support the RMIF in opposing the subpoenas served.
Producers who need advice must be referred to the RMIF’s lawyers.

9.2 Sub-committees
James Jenkinson suggested that chairpersons of the various
committees be changed to ensure that nominated members are
committed to attending the various meetings.
The Board confirmed that:
- the BDM to meetings must continue whether or not it is attened
by the external committee members;
- two to three board members on a committee was enough and
they may provide additional feedback at the Board meeting.
9.3 BTA directors
During a short discussion the Board confirmed that it was advisable
for SAPPO to have directors on the BTA board. The current Board
members can be replaced by senior SAPPO staff to represent
SAPPO.
