Rumor Goin Round’s winning connections include owner Juan Manuel Pastrana, trainer Alonso Neri and jockey Victor Urieta Jr.
Pastrana purchased Rumor Goin Round, for $26,000 at the Los Alamitos Equine Sale.
The two-year-old filly also scored her
first career win with her run in this Grade 3 400-yard futurity. She covered the distance in :19.489, posting a 99 speed index.
Her clocking in the finals was about a half- second quicker than her :19.949 qualifying run in the Nov. 13 trials to this event. That time placed her second in her trial behind fastest quali- fier Special Mariposa, and she was fifth overall among the competitors. That futurity trial also marked the maiden out for Rumor Goin Round.
Her regular rider Victor Urieta Jr. was aboard for the victorious trip, which allowed Rumor Goin Round to join her dam, Attack The Cartel,
as a stakes winner. In addition, the filly becomes the third member of the brood to log a victory in stakes company. A 2009 bay mare, Attack The Cartel won the 2013 running of the Native Empress Handicap at Los Alamitos. Steve Burns DVM bred Rumor Goin Round and also home- bred her dam Attack The Cartel.
Louisiana Blue Fire (Jess Louisiana Blue- Where Love Began), another longshot at nearly 11-1 odds, finished second by a neck for owner Juanita Selman. The Trey Ellis trainee had Juan Garcia Jr. aboard. Louisiana Blue Fire won his Nov. 13 trial to this race and entered the finals as the ninth fastest qualifier.
Special Mariposa (The Louisiana Cartel- Pampered Silk), who posted the top qualifying
time and bested Rumor Goin Round in their trial, finished third in the stakes final. Maribel Hernandez and Martha Nevarez are the owners of the filly, who is trained by Adrian Huitron and had Everardo Rodriguez in the irons. Special Mariposa previously finished second in the Dash For Cash Juvenile.
Rounding out the order of finish was BP Fancy Fling (Im A Fancy PYC-Southern Fling) followed by Fear The Dragon (Favorite Cartel- Hidden Dragon), Won Famous Dash (Giorgino- Lil Famous Dash), PYC Painted Streaker (PYC Paint Your Wagon-Miss Kips Streakin), Power Prize (Valiant Hero-Ferarri Fast Prize), Tee Britt (Tee Cos-Special Britt) and D Cosmic Cartel (The Louisiana Cartel-Special Love Shack).
