PSBA American Paint Derby-G1
MAMMY JAMMER
by John Moorehouse
After a disappointing start to her sophomore campaign, Mammy Jammer bounced back in the $32,550 American Paint Classic-G1 at Remington Park on April 24, going from gate to wire in the event.
Ray Enlow bred and trains Mammy Jammer, who went off at post time as the near-even-money favorite. She lived up to those expectations, breaking on top from the inside starting gate and leading every step of the 400-yard race. Mammy Jammer led by near daylight at the midpoint of the race, holding off This Wire Is Hot to hit the wire first by a neck.
Cody Wainscott was aboard as Mammy Jammer finished her run in :20.109, posting an 80 speed index.
The three-year-old filly now holds three stakes wins, all of which have come in a span of four outs. She closed out her rookie season with back-to-back stakes victories, taking the Pot O Gold Futurity-G1 in October followed by the Speedhorse Paint & Appaloosa Futurity Championship-G1.
For her career, Mammy Jammer improves to
a 5-2-3 record in 11 starts, with just one finish outside the money. The $14,925 prize from this race improved her overall earnings to $83,516 for owner Roy Kent Perkins. Breeder Enlow also owns Dashin DD, the dam of Mammy Jammer. The lightly-raced mare has produced two starters.
This Wire Is Hot (CRM Livewire-Princess Friona) was second. The gelding is owned by Dan and Kaye Jones, trained by Matt Whitekiller, and had Cody Smith up. Power Fade (Painted Turnpike-Fade Shot) placed third for owners Lloyd Yother and J. Garvan Kelly. The Dee Keener trainee had Juan Pulido riding.
The remaining order of finish was WB Stevie Nix (CRM Livewire-Zoomin Moon), Living In The Past (Little PYC QH-Jazzing Jackie), JS Shezaquickchick (Royal Quick Flash-Cartel Chicken), Copper Wire (CRM Livewire-PRP Sedona Sunset) and Sparkling Moondust (CRM Livewire-April Moon).
Mr Jet Moore Stakes-RG2
EAGLES FLY HIGHER
by Michael Cusortelli
Making his third start of the Remington Park 2021 spring meet, Eagles Fly Higher was a prompt 2-5 favorite in the $68,000 Mr Jet Moore Stakes-RG2 for
Oklahoma-bred aged sprinters on April 1. Eagles Fly Higher defeated Mr Dillard by
1-length while covering 350 yards in :17.582 against a 10-mph head wind. Mario Delgado rode the 5-year- old stallion for owners Darling Farms and Valeriano Racing Stables LLC & trainer Casey Black.
Eagles Fly Higher was bred by V.H. Harman Jr. and Robert Moudy III, and he was coming off of a 1/2-length victory as the 1-2 wagering choice in the 350-yard $50,000 Eastex Stakes-G2 on March 20. He is out of Lone Bet, a winning daughter of 1987 World Champion First Down Dash and a full sister to 2003 Champion of Champions-G1 winner The Down Side and stakes winner Revv It Up. Eagles Fly Higher’s second dam, the Easy Jet mare RR Le Mistral, won two graded stakes during the 1989- 1990 Sunland Park meet, including the 1990 West Texas Derby-G1.
Raced in six states, the stallion has won nine of 25 starts, and the $39,000 winner’s share of the purse from his sixth stakes victory increased his earnings
to $596,595.
Mr Dillard (Hes Relentless-Quions) banked $13,000 for his owner, L Hendrix Horses LLC. Jorge Torres rode the homebred 4-year-old gelding for trainer Clint Crawford. Larry L. Rice’s Jesse D (Jess Louisiana Blue-Sunny D) ran third, 1 1/2-lengths behind Eagles Fly Higher. Jimmy Brooks rode the 4-year-old gelding for trainer Eddie D. Willis.
Uncurled Fist (One Famous Eagle-Cruisin The Wagon), JK Wildcat Red (One Dashing Eagle- Shaky Girl), Relentless Jessie (Hes Relentless-Jess A Queen), A Valiant Diamond (One Valiant Hero-Sixy Chamisa) and Inseperable Apollo (Inseperable- Tweety Bug Lady) completed the order of finish.
Pauls Valley Handicap-G2
WASCALLYWITTLEWABBIT
by Tracy Gantz
The sire Heza Motor Scooter had two offspring
in the $50,880 Pauls Valley Stakes-G2 at Remington on April 1, and they finished one-two as Wascallywittlewabbit defeated Why Buy The Cow.
The two have met several times before, but both had to cede favoritism to Ms Esther. Ridden by Benito Baca, Wascallywittlewabbit dueled with Why Buy The Cow and Higher Flyin Eagle early in the 870-yard Pauls Valley. Ms Esther came on late, but Wascallywittlewabbit remained in front, defeating Why Buy The Cow by 1/2-length, with Ms Esther a nose back in third. Wascallywittlewabbit stopped the timer in :45.498, posting a 92 speed index.
Michael Joiner trains Wascallywittlewabbit for Rogers Farms. Wascallywittlewabbit began rac- ing for his breeder, Mike Weatherly, in 2018. For Rogers Farms the gelding won the 2020 Zia 870 Championship and Bill Reed Memorial.
Weatherly bred Wascallywittlewabbit out of unraced Rabbits N Diamonds. Wascallywittlewabbit is the mare’s first winner from two starters.
Daniel Amaya rode Why Buy The Cow (Heza Motor Scooter-Southwest Treasure) to second for owner Carrol Durbin and trainer Clinton Crawford. Why Buy The Cow won the 2019 New Mexico Classic Cup 870 Championship. Jordan Baumann owns and trains third-place Ms Esther (Afrashad TB-Tres Down The Cash). Andrew Samaniego
rode the 7-year-old mare. Ms Esther won the Pauls Valley in 2019, and her three other stakes victories include the 2020 Will Rogers Downs Distance Challenge-G3.
Completing the field were Higher Flyin Eagle (Favorite Cartel-Royaltime Separatist), Holy Storm (Red Storm Cat-Holy White Socks TB), Moonflash Cat (First Moonflash-Domeinitchy TB), and Weapon First Bug (Pappasito-War Weapon). Coastal Confessions was scratched.
