Mr Master Bug Stakes-RG3
BRAN NU DAE
by Danny Camp
Bran Nu Dae scored her third win and first stakes victory in the $68,000 Mr Master Bug Stakes-RG3 at Remington Park on April 17.
The three-year-old filly broke from the 3-post
mid pack. Enter jockey Jose Alvarez. With some serious encouragement, he helped his mount stick her nose in front at the wire.
They completed the 350 yards in :17.451 to earn a speed index of 92. Trained by Eddie D. Willis, the filly also earned first place money of $38,400 for owner/breeder Alona James.
During her two year old season, Bran Nu Dae finished third in the FL Lady Bug Stakes-G3 and was also a finalist in the Laico Bird Stakes-G3.
James bred Bran Nu Dae in Oklahoma out of multiple stakes winner The Dashing Attitude. The mare won stakes such as Black Gold Derby and Easy Date Stakes, and has produced 100% winners from four starters. Bran Nu Dae is her first stakes winner and top earner.
Second place money went to Dalts Fancy
Pistol (Im A Fancy PYC-Dalts Pistol), who broke on top and was able to hold on for second place
for owners Don Anthony and Sam Green. The Guillermo Valdivia trainee had Cody Smith in the irons. The filly won the FL Lady Bug Stakes-G3 last year. Contender (Hes Relentless-Painted Sable) and jockey Mario Delgado were third for owner Cristina Flores and trainer Juliana Mancillas.
The colt was a finalist in the 2020 Heritage Place Futurity-G1. Followed by Facing The Fire (Valiant Hero-DM Sashay), Best Of You (Apollitical Jess-Foo Who), Cindydoesitagain (Capo De Capi-Easydoesitcindy), Gym N Jam (Jess Good Candy-None As Easy), Saturday Nite Secret (Hez Our Secret-It’s Saturday Nite tb) and LR Tempting Beast (Tempting Dash-Racing Streak). Doubters Beware was scratched.
Easy Date Stakes
CAT DADDYS LIL GIRL
by John Moorehouse
Cat Daddys Lil Girl’s debut out at Remington Park was a successful one. She prevailed by a head in the $75,480 Easy Date Stakes held April 17.
The five-year-old filly broke inward emerging from the 3-post, then straightened and came out firing, mak- ing an all-out push for the finish line. She seized the lead by a head going into the stretch and held on, finish- ing the 350-yard race in :17.378 for a 94 speed index.
Jason T. Giles trains Cat Daddys Lil Girl, and Noe Garcia was in the irons. The winning effort produced a $41,400 payday, increasing the filly’s total earnings to $388,682.
Home-bred by Jimmy Negrete and Jimmy Vasquez, Cat Daddys Lil Girl holds eight victories in 18 starts, with three of those wins in stakes races.
Negrete and Vazquez also own Girlonthego, the dam of Cat Daddys Lil Girl, a 2012 mare and former stakes winner in her own right—capturing the 2014 running of the Zia Futurity-RG1 at Ruidoso. Cat Daddys Lil Girl is one of two stakes winners in the brood; the other, Ryansmanonthemoon, is a half- brother with four victories in stakes company and a lifetime bankroll of $410,000.
Ratification (Apollitical Jess-Shesa First Ratify) finished second for Bobby D. Cox. The Juan Vazquez trainee had Francisco Calderon aboard. HH Gailforce (Freighttrain B-Open My Prize) finished third for Egoizzta Partnership. Clinton Crawford trains HH Gailforce, with James Flores doing the riding. SOUTHERN ELECTRIC
by Michael Compton
Southern Electric won the $20,450 Paul Harber Paint & Appaloosa Memorial at Remington
Park on April 9, turning in an electric performance which resulted in a New Track Record for Paints and Appaloosas at 350 yards.
With Andrew Samaniego aboard, Southern Electric broke sharply and assumed command at the break. He maintained a clear advantage through- out, drawing clear late to score as he pleased by 1 3/4-lengths. The final time of :17.185 established a New Track Record for Paints, eclipsing the previous mark of :17.232 set by The Cock Of The Walk in 2010. Sent off at odds of 3-1, Southern Electric earned a 101 speed index for the victory.
A homebred for Dan and Kaye Jones, Southern Electric is conditioned by Matt Whitekiller. It was the second win in a row in the event for the connections who won the race last year with Live Moonshine, who finished third behind his stablemate in this year’s renewal as the 2-1 race favorite. “Southern Electric ran the best race of his life,” said Whitekiller.
A 4-year-old sorrel gelding, Southern Electric is out of Ze Southern Girl. The win improved his record to 20-12-3-2 and the $11,850 winner’s share of the purse increased his bankroll to $246,821.
Snow Advisory APHA (Lota PYC QH-Snow Warning) and jockey Jonathan Dominguez was clearly second best on the day. The mare is owned by Jennifer Chapa and is trained by Anselmo Cruz. Live Moonshine APHA (CRM Livewire-PRP Sedona Sunset) had a clean trip under Cody Smith and fin- ished third for the same connections as the winner. Followed by Queen For Cash ApHC (Hes Relentless QH-Ivory Queen), DTL Samureye APHA (SF Royal Quick Flash-Eysa Savvy Queen) & DTL Chasin Tale APHA (Wagon Tales QH-Shez Showin Off). NBC Mr Blackie APHA & Tales U Lose APHA were scratched.
