CL PAINTED SHADOWS

CL Painted Shadows went into the gates for the Colors of Houston Paint Futurity-G2 as the post-time favorite and lived up to those
expectations, winning the $60,230 stakes at Sam Houston Race Park on June 5.
Guerra Racing Stables owns CL Painted Shadows, who made her debut at Remington Park where she registered four consecutive outs before heading over to Houston.
Tabbed the favorite at less than 2-1 odds, the filly broke well from the No. 4 gate and made a driving run for the wire. Jockey Noe Villatoro had the filly leading by a 1/2-length at the stretch and she held off Party In The Wagon to hit the finish line first by a neck. Trained by Jose Lopez, CL Painted Shadows completed the 300-yard trip in :15.624, registering a 94 speed index and bringing in the $22,888 winner’s share that more that doubled her earnings to a new total of $41,899.
Mike and Jay Lynn Hester bred CL Painted Shadows out of Skip Away Shadow, a lightly-raced 2013 mare whom the Hesters also own. CL Painted Shadows becomes the first stakes winner in the brood, although half-brother Got Yo Penny is stakes-placed.
Party In The Wagon (Little PYC-Partys Dolls TB) made a steady run for second place for owner/ trainer Oscar Nunez. Francisco Mendez was aboard. Little Wagon Dreams (Little PYC-Sallye Rand QH) hit the board in third for Ervey Balderas. The Frank Mendez trainee had Luis Vivanco in the irons.
The remaining order of finish was Drive (First Prize Boston QH-Just Splashin), Cowboy Camo (Boknaai QH-Camo Cowgirl), Dos Pennies (Dash Master Jess QH-Double Dashing), Hot Flash H (MHM Hotwire-KC Fabulous Flash), Grant Dacious (Bodacious Dash QH-A Rare Zoom), Junipers Hot Wire (CRM Livewire-Junipers Royal Treat) and JB Kiss (Judys Kiss-Kiss My Color).

Southern Electric registered his 13th career victory and eighth in stakes company in the $34,500 Colors of Texas Paint Maturity-G2 held June 5 at Sam Houston Race Park.
Dan and Kaye Jones’ home-bred the gelding, who now holds an 8-1-2 record in 14 stakes races. His stakes win total includes six Grade 1 events.
Southern Electric came on strong under Cody Smith to score the win in this one. Running third at the first call, the 4-year-old gelding worked his way to second going into the stretch, then surpassed WB Stevie Nix to reach the wire first by a 1/2-length.
Matt Whitekiller trains Southern Electric, who completed the 350-yards in :17.665, posting a 97 speed index. The win produced a $15,352 payday, increasing the gelding’s total earnings to $268,101. Whitekiller and Smith also combined their efforts for Smithworks for his victory in last month’s Speedhorse Graham Paint & Appaloosa Futurity-G1.
The Joneses bred Southern Electric out of lightly raced Ze Southern Girl, a 2007 Quarter Horse. Southern Electric was the 2019 APHA World Champion Breeding Stock.
Two longshots also hit the board. WB Stevie
Nix APHA (CRM Livewire-Zoomin Moon), at 11-1 odds, finished in 2nd for WAG Ranches. The Gary Jacobs trainee had Luis Vivanco in the irons. VP Cold Strong Heart APHA (This Cartel Is Cold QH-Double Dashing), a 38-1 underdog, placed 3rd for owner Victor Villarreal & trainer Martin Rodriguez. Francisco Giles did the riding. Followed by Just Wishn APHA (Boknaai QH-Just Splashin), Seperate Wagons APHA (Little PYC-Sallye Rand QH), Da Boss
ApHC (Capo de Capi QH-R Ms Kitty), A Tempting Encounter APHA (Tempting Dash QH-Brief Encounter), and Texas Magazeche APHA (Texas Magnum Seven-Azes and Queens). DTL Samureye APHA & Heza Wicked Man APHA scratched.

VIVA LE DON

The Jesse Yoakum Memorial, a race named after the iconic trainer, was contested at Sam Houston Race Park on June 12. The 870-yard event carried a total purse of $81,000.
Viva Le Don got the first call when he broke from the 4-post and was never headed. Going into the turn, he was in the lead and had the rail. He rounded the turn and at the top of the stretch, he was 2 1/2 lengths in front. He crossed the line with a very impressive 7 1/2-length margin of victory.
Ridden by jockey Josh Romero, Viva Le Don completed the 870 yards in :45.631 to earn a 99 speed index.
Trained by Tammy Johnson, the gelding also earned the first place check worth $48,600. That ups his total bankroll to $411,806 for owner Rockin J Running Horses. His race record stands at eight wins out of 27 races.
Jack Manning and Tammy Johnson bred Viva Le Don out of winner Viva Arriba. She has produced 100% winners from three starters. Viva Le Don is her first stakes winner.
The Kings Horse (Class King-Fleeta Dif TB) was second for owner Bullard Farms and trainer Lewis Jordan. Jerry Yoakum was in the saddle. The gelding has won two races and was a finalist in the Benny Pennington Memorial.
Ridden by Claudio Aguilar, Show Time (One Famous Eagle-Veva Jean) saved enough ground along the rail to cross the line in third place for owner Jerry Windham and trainer Lewis Jordan. The gelding has won three races from 10 starts. This is his first stakes event.
Love Ta Zoom (Azoom-Loves Easter Bunny), Silver City Lights (Silver City TB-Backwoods Bar), Executive Trust (Executive Menace-Entrust), Tek Ni Color (Flyin Color-Blaze In Bok Lady) and Stolis Pro (Stoli-Veva Jean) completed the order of finish.
