                 Mountain Top NM Bred Derby
ICY MORNING BREEZE
by Michael Cusortelli
Icy Morning Breeze, a homebred Winners Version filly racing for the Estate of William R. and Mary Robertson, sprinted to a 1/2-length victory in the
inaugural $90,635 Mountain Top Derby for New Mexico-bred 3-year-olds at Ruidoso Downs on June 19.
Ridden by Hector Aldrete for trainer Jackie Riddle, Icy Morning Breeze covered 350 yards in :17.288. The filly earned a 103 speed index and $38,943 from her second career stakes win.
“She’s a little horse with a big heart,” said Aldrete. “This is my favorite horse because she bears down and doesn’t like to be outrun.”
Icy Morning Breeze was the fifth-fastest qualifier after she made her sophomore season debut with a
2 1/2-length victory in the first of six trials on June
5. The filly ended her 2-year-old campaign with
a 1/2-length win as the 4th-fastest qualifier in the $360,345 New Mexico Cup Futurity-RG2 at Zia Park.
All told, Icy Morning Breeze has won four of seven races -- all in New Mexico -- and she has banked $226,787. The Robertsons’ son, William Jr., accepted the trophy in the winner’s circle.
“They’re looking over us and smiling,” he said of his late parents. “They loved racing, and they worked hard to establish this bloodline.”
Fanncee (Big Daddy Cartel-Astica) and fastest qualifier Bigg Dee (Big Daddy Cartel-Woody Dee) finished in a deadheat for second. Alan Hernandez rode Fanncee for owner MJ Farms and trainer Wes Giles, while Mario Delgado rode Bigg Dee for owner Rex Wells and trainer James Gonzales II. Followed by Chicky Chicky Kai (Jess A Chicks-Wahene Kai), Winner Takes It All (Winners Version-A Scootin Princess), Leading Cartel (Big Daddy Cartel-Leading Diva), Jessies Allstar (Jesse James Jr-Woodys Allstar), Mr Money Baggs (Sixes Royal-Money Smart Gal) & Midnight Train Mo (Rock Solid Jess-Not Sable Shes Rose) Fly On Down scratched.

by Michael Compton
Apollitical B Snow made it back-to-back stakes scores with a resounding victory in the $58,000 Miss Polly Classic Stakes-G2 at Delta Downs on June 14.
Piloted by Everardo Rodriguez, Apollitical
B Snow flashed speed away from the gate in
the 400-yard event. The brown gelding quickly distanced himself from his nine rivals, opening a length on Stone Cold Leader early in the dash. He widened his advantage to 2-lengths in the lane and despite drifting out late, scored by a measured 1 1/2-lengths at the wire. He stopped the clock in a swift :19.346, just ticks off Executive Precision’s track record of :19.231 set in 2011. Apollitical B Snow’s wire-to-wire score earned a 103 speed index.
Owned by Christopher A. Villatoro and trained by Rosendo Valdez Jr., Apollitical B Snow is now a winner in 5 of 15 starts and the $36,000 winner’s share of the purse increased the 4-year-old gelding’s bankroll to $114,658. Bred in Louisiana by Glinden Leger Estate, Apollitical B Snow is produced from the This Snow Is Royal mare Mary Snow.
Mpshinning (Mr Piloto-Shinningperrydash) and jockey Al Rivera finished second for owner Larry Boudreaux and trainer Adrian Huitron. Stone Cold Leader (Brookstone Bay-Sheza Classy Leader) dueled early and settled for third under Rolando Pina. The 6-year-old gelding is owned by Patrick Richardson and Eric Long is the trainer.
Jess B One (PYC Paint Your Wagon-Jess B Mighty), Katchi Dat (Favorite Cartel-Mt Rob This Corona), Jess To Shine (One Sweet Jess-Jetsie Shine First), Hot Dam Bam A Lam (Captain Courage-Hot Nova), Fantasticazoom Jr (Fantastic Corona Jr-Zoomshakalaka), Wagons Dash (PYC Paint Your Wagon-Breitling Time) and My

Old South Futurity
BP FLING IN A WAGON
by Michael Compton
The $95,585 Old South Futurity at Delta Downs on June 1 brought together a competitive field of 10 promising juveniles. When the dust settled after the 330 yards, it was BP Fling In A Wagon proving best, with the colt earning his initial stakes victory.
Piloted by Jorge Garcia, BP Fling In A Wagon flashed high speed away from the 6-gate and took command immediately. He never relinquished the lead, holding 1/2-length at first call and 1-length at the top
of the stretch. The brown colt ran away to a 1/2-length score for owner Juan Montoya and trainer Richard Washington. BP Fling In A Wagon covered the distance in :16.625, posting a 93 speed index.
BP Fling In A Wagon broke his maiden in his previous outing where he notched a dominating 1 3/4-length win in his Old South trial heat on May 11, which earned him the second fastest qualifying spot. The $47,792 winner’s share of the main event’s purse padded his bankroll to $51,392. Bred in Oklahoma by Bill Price, the colt is out of Southern Fling, a 4-time winner and multiple Graded stakes finalist.
Mr Spud (The Louisiana Cartel-Ace Winema) and jockey Everardo Rodriguez finished a game 2nd for owner Christopher Villatoro and trainer Rosendo Valdez Jr. It was the initial loss for the gelding, who started his career undefeated in 2 starts. Apollitical B Sea (Apollitical Blood-Julias Perfection) challenged the winner early before fading in the lane to finish 3rd under jockey Jose Martinez. The filly is owned by LA Racing Stables and trained by Hector Alcala.
