Delta Dash
SAN LORENZO DASH
Mby John Moorehouse
aking her 18th career start, San Lorenzo Dash
ran to her first-ever stakes victory on April 28, winning in the $28,900 Delta Dash as Delta Downs kicked off its 2023 meet.
Rogelio Marquez Jr. home-bred San Lorenzo Dash, a four-year-old filly who notched her seventh win. Marquez also banked an $18,000 payday that increased the filly’s total earnings to $127,014.
No stranger to stakes company, San Lorenzo Dash finished second in the Billy Montgomery Stakes at Louisiana Downs in March and was part of the field for last year’s running of the Louisiana Champions Day Derby-G3 at Evangeline. She was the even-money favorite in this race and met those expectations by going wire-to-wire. The filly broke on top from the inside, led by a length going into the stretch and never looked back, sporting a separation of 1/2-length as she hit the finish line.
Jesus Marquez trains San Lorenzo Dash, who finished the 250-yard sprint in :12.969 for a 98 speed index. Ubaldo Luna had the riding assignment.
Marquez bred San Lorenzo Dash and owns his dam, San Lorenzo Eagle, a 2014 mare.
Mp Dont Look (Mr Piloto-McM Dont Look Back) made a game effort for second place for Rosendo Valdez. The Fernando Valdez trainee had Guadalupe Lucio Jr. in the irons. \
Swags (Kiss My Hocks-Check The Account) finished third for owner Luciano Gutierrez and trainer Adrian Huitron. Jorge Garcia did the riding.
The remaining order of finish was Lett It Happen (Jet Black Patriot-Dont Lett Her Down), Red Face Rogue (Heza Fast Rogue-Red Face Girl), Mp Dancing Star (Mr Piloto-Imdancinwiththestars), Toast To
Blue (Jess Louisiana Blue-Sante Mon Amie), Lady Genevieve (Dragon Wings-Malories Warrior), Cwfasttrack (Mr Ease Cartel-BT Sheza Baby Spoon), and Jeg Facination (Freighttrain B-Ja Fascination).

Armando Cervantes has partnered Cir Lady Moon at Los Alamitos, and the jockey got her away from the gate in good order. Cir Lady Moon surged to the front and scored by a 1/2-length in :17.492 for 350 yards.
Earlier at Los Alamitos, Cervantes rode Cir Lady Moon to second in the Dashingly Handicap and first in the Denim N Diamonds Handicap-G3. At Sweetwater Downs, Cir Lady Moon won the 2022 Isaws Sugar Bear Stakes. Monty Arrossa took over the mare’s training at Los Alamitos.

Edward and Theresa DeNike’s homebred Sweet Tess (Apollitical Jess-Separate Thoughts) finished in second place. Eduardo Nicasio rode the four- year-old filly for trainer Patricia Visscher. Sweet Tess won the 2022 Los Alamitos Oaks-G3 and the Justanold Love Handicap.
