La Pacifica Handicap
ONE SWEET DUCK
Fby Tracy Gantz
ive years after trainer Monty Arrossa saddled
Duck Dash N Go to win the Independence Day Handicap at Los Alamitos, he won a stakes with the mare’s daughter, One Sweet Duck. The longest shot at 27-1, One Sweet Duck captured the $35,000 La Pacifica Handicap on May 6.
Jockey Armando Viramontes got One Sweet Duck away quickly from the rail, and she sped to the lead in the 350-yard La Pacifica. Several others closed from the outside, but One Sweet Duck held them off to score by a head in :17.766.
Lex Fabrizio owns One Sweet Duck and bred her in Utah. The filly’s best previous stakes performance was a second in the 2022 Wyoming Downs Futurity.
Arrossa helped put together the deal for Fabrizio to acquire Duck Dash N Go during her racing career. A five-time stakes winner, Duck Dash N Go earned $163,749. One Sweet Duck was the first foal for the mare, who has one other starter.
Adrian Loza rode AJ Run For Cash (Apollitical Jess-Shyann Cash) to second for trainer Juan Aleman and owner Boardshorts Stables LLC. AJ Run For Cash won the 2022 Firecracker Futurity at Grants Pass.
Forever Dynasty (Hes Relentless-Forgotten Dynasty), owned by Jeryl Hartley and bred by Jeryl’s late husband, Ron, finished third. Juan Leon rode the filly for trainer Sergio Morfin. Forever Dynasty won this year’s Queen For Cash Handicap at Los Alamitos.

Dillingham Handicap
PARTY POLITICS
Tby Tracy Gantz
he top three finishers in the March 26 El Primero
Del Ano Derby-G2 at Los Alamitos returned
for the $30,000 Dillingham Handicap on May 13 and again took the top three spots, though not in the same order. This time, Party Politics conquered Mahomes Magic and Hes Chickless, while in the previous race Hes Chickless won, with Party Politics second and Mahomes Magic third.
Juan Aleman, trainer of Party Politics, felt that the gelding needed a better start to win, and that’s exactly what happened. With Jesus Ayala aboard, Party Politics broke well from post 2, just behind Hes Chickless on the rail. Those two battled for the entire 400 yards, with Party Politics edging Hes Chickless by a neck in :19.949.
Aleman trains Party Politics for his family’s JGA Racing Stables Inc. They bought him for $100,000
at the 2021 Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale. Party Politics last year captured the Golden State Million Futurity-G1 and Ed Burke Million Futurity-G1, and he was named the Pacific Coast Quarter Horse Racing Association Champion 2-Year-Old Gelding of 2022.
J. Garvan Kelly bred Party Politics in Oklahoma out of multiple stakes winner Shanachee. The mare has produced 12 winners from 16 starters, including stakes winner O Donovan Rossa and stakes-placed Shannon Power, Racanteur, and Nobby Walsh.
Sergio Morfin trains Mahomes Magic (Favorite Cartel-Heartbeat) and Hes Chickless (Hes Relentless- Chickitita). Juan Leon rode Mahomes Magic for owner Eleazar Gonzalez, and Cruz Mendez piloted Hes Chickless for owner/breeder Jeryl Hartley.
Marcelo (Fast Prize Cartel-SS Calendar Girl) finished fourth, but was disqualified and placed sixth for interference. That moved Good Wagon SA (Good Reason SA-Send Me This Wagon) into fourth and Aint He Tempting (Tempting Dash-Preslee The First) into fifth.

UP THE INTEREST
Oby Tracy Gantz
wner Eleazar Gonzalez made an excellent
private purchase when he acquired Up The Interest less than a month before the May 21 Adequan Los Alamitos Derby Challenge. In his first start for Gonzalez, Up The Interest became a stakes winner.
When the gate opened in the 400-yard Challenge, 7-5 favorite Chicks First Flash leapt into the air and trailed the field. Up The Interest, sent away at 23-1, broke much better and was quickly vying for the lead under jockey Juan Leon. He battled with Price Fixer, edging that one at the wire by a neck in :20.054.
Sergio Morfin took over the training of Up The Interest after Gonzalez bought him. Prior to that, Up The Interest had won two of seven races—a maiden event and an allowance race.
David and Leah Nelson bred Up The Interest from multiple graded stakes winner Kiddy Up Cowgirl. The mare has produced two starters in four winners. Up The Interest’s third dam is multiple Graded stakes winner Girl Secrets.
Rodrigo Aceves rode Price Fixer (Favorite Cartel-Chickafirst) to 2nd for trainer Adan Farias and owner David Hinkins. Price Fixer has won 3 previous races.
Normandy (A Revenant-Ms Casholene) finished 3rd for jockey Jose Nicasio, trainer Roman Figueroa, and owner Ronnie Brooks Keller. The colt was coming off thirds in the Los Alamitos Winter Derby-G1 and James S. Smith Memorial Handicap.
Followed by Suite Caroline (Favorite Cartel-Just A Fairytale), Chisum (Corona Cartel-Famous Little Reba), Chicks First Flash (First Moonflash-First Prize Chicks), Budder Off Friends (FDD Dynasty- Budderfly Effect), Five Bar Knockout (Five Bar Cartel-Whatta Knockout), One Famous Commando (One Famous Eagle-Coronatac), and Dashas Dynasty (FDD Dynasty-Dasha Freda).
