Old Timers Classic

essaprimadonna scored her second stakes victory
in the $16,278 Old Timers Classic at Century Mile on May 12.
Ridden by D. Benitez, the six-year-old sorrel mare broke in second from the 8-post and drifted in, falling to fourth place at the top of the stretch.
The team got up just in time to cross the wire with a 1/2-length winning margin.
Trained by Misael Moreno, Jessaprimadonna completed the 300 yards in :15.470, while posting a hand-timed 102 speed index.
Racing for owner Cindy Fehr, the mare has now won seven races, including the $41,278 Princess Derby in 2021 which she won impressively by a neck. She was also a finalist in the 2020 Lassie Futurity-RG2, in the 2021 Picov Derby, and in
the 2022 Picov Maturity and 2022 Alex Picov Memorial Championship.
The Old Timers Classis was the first start for Jessaprimadonna in 2023.
Jessaprimadonna now has seven wins from 24 starts and $72,795 in total earnings.
Leroy Janacek Jr. bred Jessaprimadonna out of lightly raced Favorite Primadonna, who has produced 100% winners from three starters. Jessaprimadonna is her first stakes winner.
Ridden by J. Botello, Flight Club (Foose- Seperate Flight) had the lead early, but was caught by the winner and had to settle for second. The gray gelding is owned by Charles Stojan and trained by William Leech. Flight Club has won the Alberta Aged Invitational Stakes, Evergreen Park Championship, Century Mile Bonus Challenge, Old Timers Classic, Canada Cup Derby and Evergreen Park Juvenile Challenge. He was ranked a leader by wins in 2022.
In third place was Double Cruise (BD Cruiser- Eye Cruise). The sorrel gelding was ridden by Martin Osuna for owner/trainer Tom Kenway. The gelding won last year’s Alberta Bred Maturity and Alberta Stallion Stakes Maturity. He also won the 2020 Canada Cup Derby and Alberta Bred Derby and 2019 Alberta Stallion Stakes Futurity. He has seven wins from 22 starts.
Completing the order of finish were Bringontherush (Wave Carver-SLS Dashin Corona) in fourth and followed by She Wears The Pantz (Seperate Interest-Skinny Jeans), Scarletts Cartel (Carters Cartel-Scarlett Jewel), Wave Burner (Wave Carver-First Prize Sass) and Timbers Express (First Timber-Daddys Express Girl).

irst Moon Covenant scored his first stakes
victory in the $21,418 Weber Downs Derby for colts and geldings on April 30.
Ridden by Julian Zavala for trainer Alvaro Torres, the colt broke on top and was never headed, crossing the wire a neck in front.
They completed the 300 yards in :15.640, which was good for a 96 speed index.
First Moon Covenant brought home the $8,567 winner’s share of the purse for owner/ breeder Darian Burt, taking his total lifetime earnings to $15,819.
Raced in Wyoming and Utah, the brown colt has won or placed in all three of his starts.
Burt bred First Moon Covenant out of
Four Corners Futurity-G3 winner Covenant Confirmer. She has produced five winners from eight starters, including top earner and Champion Aged Stallion Jesscuzican. The New Mexico Hi-Point Aged Stallion won the 2014 Sunland Challenge Championship-G2 and 2015 West Texas Maturity-G3. First Moon Covenant is her second stakes winner.
Look James (Ivory James-Righteous Look) and jockey Jesus Valenzuela made a strong run, settling for second place. He is owned by Carolyn and Adrian Aleman and trained by Kylie Valenzuela. The gelding was a finalist in last year’s Pocatello Downs Juvenile Challenge.
In third was Pappauino (Pappasito-Merry Perry), ridden by Tyson Lusk for owner Jessica Hadley and trainer Jordan Hadley. The gelding has won or placed in seven of his eight starts.
One Famous Rock (One Famous Eagle-First Prize Joy), Nomad Too (Fly Thru The Fire- Moonlight Corona), El Serafin (Glock-Elin) and GG Ocean King (Oceans Apart-GG Winning Flo) completed the order of finish.
