 GANADERO
by Elle Summers
Ganadero, racing for owner Emmanuel Villarreal, won his first stakes race in the $94,100 Gillespie County Fair Derby on Aug. 27.
The three-year-old gray gelding by Big Daddy Cartel added $32,935 to his earnings, giving him a total of $52,557.
Ridden by Nestor Duran, Ganadero had a late kick in the final stretch to gain ground and cross the wire first by a head in :17.453, earning a 101 speed index. The gelding is trained by Juan Diaz Jr., who also trains second place finisher JL Apollitical Miss.
Villarreal purchased Ganadero at the 2021 Ruidoso New Mexico Bred Yearling Sale for $14,000 from breeder MJ Farms. Ganadero is out of the First Down Dash Curlie Cue, who won the 2012 Juno’s Request Handicap. She
also hit the board in the Denim N Diamonds Handicap, Native Empress Handicap and Stylish Jeans BR Handicap. Curlie Cue has produced seven winners from 11 starters, including Mexico runner AR Dashin Waggin, winner of the 2020 Alfredo Castro Rea Stakes and runner up in the 2021 Las Americas Derby. Ganadero is a full brother to Who U Daddy, who placed second in the Zia Juvenile and was a finalist for the New Mexican Spring Futurity-G2 this year. He is also a half-brother to Bigg Curlie Bill, who ran third in this year’s Mountain Top Juvenile.
Owned by Josefina Guzman, JL Apollitical Miss (Apollitical Blood-Special Sultry Miss) took second place by a head under jockey Victor Urieta Jr. Last year, JL Apollitical Miss got second in the Firecracker Futurity-G2 and third in the De Saix Stakes, both races taking place at Delta Downs.
After winning his trial on Aug. 13, Mad Tool (Mr Apollitical Dash-Hot Charge) took third place in the final behind JL Apollitical Miss. Mad Tool is owned by Jose G. Monrreal, who purchased the gelding at the 2023 Heritage Place Mixed Sale for $8,500. The sorrel gelding is trained by J. Ryan Basham and Alejandro Zuniga had the riding assignment.

Association All Breeds 870 Stakes on Aug. 26 in Fredericksburg, Texas.

stakes victory increased his lifetime earnings to $77,265. The gelding’s stakes resume includes
a second-place finish in last year’s 870-yard $43,250 San Marcos Stakes at Retama Park.
WL Mylipshurtrealbad was bred in Oklahoma by Wade Leggett. His dam Shez Quick To Ramble was purchased by Leggett from breeders Vessels Stallion Farm and Walt Fletcher for $1,700 at the 2009 Heritage Place Yearling Sale in Oklahoma City. Shez Quick To Ramble is also the dam of Mexico runner WL Shez To Fantastic, who finished third in the Campeon De Campeones Classic.
The gelding traces back to his third dam, Kiptys Kisses, a multiple graded stakes winning Kiptys Charger mare who produced the late Heza Ramblin Man, a multiple Grade 1 winner and full brother to Sheza Ramblin Too. In total, the mare produced 11 winners from 12 starters with three stakes winners.
Oklahoma Star TB (Doctor Chit-Electrick City) finished second while banking $3,800 for his owners, Leslie Casterline Jr. and Ernest Aparicio. Jocelyn Edison rode the 6-year-old mare for trainer Ricardo Aguirre.

by Michael Cusortelli

Prepped by Gayla Chaparro and sent to post at odds of 6-1 in the full field of 10, Mr Teco covered 250 yards in :13.169, and his winning margin was a neck from 4-1 favorite Swags. Luciano Duenez rode the bay gelding.
Campaigned in two states, including Louisiana, Mr Teco has won three of 20 races, and the $12,300 winner’s share of the purse
from his first stakes victory increased his career bankroll to $66,129. The gelding was a finalist in last year’s 350-yard, $87,637 Old South Derby at Delta Downs.

The gelding is out of winner My Cold Corona, who placed third in the 2012 TQHA Futurity. She has produced three winners from four starters, including her top earner Mr Tereso, winner of the Gillespie County Fair Futurity and Old South Derby. Mr Tereso was also a runner-up in the Evangeline Downs Futurity-G3 and Nevill Stakes.
