n his fourth win of the season, Sour Candy
snagged the win by a nose in the $39,646 Norman Picov Derby at Ajax Downs on Sept. 13. Sour Candy and jockey Alexis Sanchez made their move up the track in the stretch, taking control of the field. The gelding finished the 400 yards in a time of :20.223 for a speed index 91
Sour Candy brought home a winning purse of $15,859 for owners Craig Spada and Rick Crispi. The gelding’s career earnings now sit at $55,057.
Sour Candy, who is trained by Lauren Spada, and is a multiple stakes winner, winning or placing in all eight of his career starts.
Sour Candy has raced exclusively at Ajax Downs and won the QROOI Bonus Futurity last September.
Bred by Richard Wincikaby, Sour Candy is the only starter out of Tayter To The Top.
Krash On Okey (Krash Cartel-Stayin On Okey) and jockey Tony Phillips just missed the win by a nose. The gelding is owned by Craig Spada and trained by Lauren Spada. He has won or placed in 8 of his 9 outs this racing season.
Race favorite Snow Moose (Seperate Interest- Favorite Pearl) and jockey Brian Bell proved no match for the first two horses across the wire. He is owned by Milena Kwiecien and trained by Jason Pascoe. The gelding is a multiple stakes winner with his first win being the Alex Picov Memorial Futurity last October.
The remaining order to finish was Had To Be Ivy (Ivory James-Had to Be Fandango), Valiant Chick Insnow (Valiant Hero-Aj Chick In 15), Firstprize Charlotte (Dashair-Ms First Prize Pearl), A Shades Of Cold (Cold Hard Dash-Sassy Shades Of Gray) & Aquatica(Moonin The Eagle- Contingen Sea). Dark N Stormy & One Fabulous Wave were both scratched by the stewards.

n a mild upset, First Cold Wave stole the lead
from the race favorite and finished a head to the good to win the $30,059 Ontario Sires’ Stakes Maturity on Sept. 3 at Ajax Downs. Seated by jockey Helen Vanek, the sorrel gelding had a clean trip across the 330 yards. He finished with a time of :16.779 and a speed index of 101.
Breeder and owner Robert Bailey received a purse of $12,023 for his gelding’s stakes win. First Cold Wave is trained by Jason Pascoe and is a multiple stakes winner, holding a career earnings of $152,921. The gelding won the Ontario Sires’ Stakes Futurity and the Alex Picov Memorial Futurity in 2021.
First Cold Wave is currently the only stakes winner and the leading money earner out of the mare Cassies Carver.
Race favorite Sugarmans Delight (Sugarman Perry-Wonders Delight) and jockey Ed Walton held the lead from the start, dueling on the inside and just missed the win coming across the wire. The gelding is owned and trained by Joe Tavares. and has had a lengthy career with 67 starts, winning or placing in 43 of those outs.
Im Aquick Corona (Caviar And Corona-Im Aquicktrick) and jockey Ismael Mosqueira had a good trip and held a game third. The gelding is bred, owned, and trained by James Bogar.

PATTY WAGON TRAIN

n winning her third consecutive race and first
stakes event, Patty Wagon Train scored an impressive victory in the $50,000 Audubon Stakes at Delta Downs on Sept. 2.
Piloted by Arturo Alvarez, Patty Wagon Train flashed speed away from the starting gate in the 330- yard dash. She quickly cleared the field, opening a length on her nearest pursuer. She maintained a clear advantage through the lane and scored wire-to-wire by 1 1/4-lengths at the finish with runner-up Jeg Fascination giving chase. Patty Wagon Train covered the distance in :16.571 and earned a 97 speed index in the victory.
Owned by John Sargent and trained by Guillermo Martinez, Patty Wagon Train improved her record to 12-4-2-1 and the $30,000 winner’s share of the Audubon purse swelled her bankroll to $81,490. Bred in Louisiana by Steven Miller, Patty Wagon Train is produced from the Game Patriot mare Pattymegone.
Runner-up Jeg Fascination (Freightrain B-Ja Fascination) raced in contention throughout under jockey Everardo Rodriguez and held second by a nose from a fast-charging Miss Pilots Train. The sorrel filly, who is conditioned by Jose Espinosa and is an eight-time stakes finalist, is a Louisiana homebred for Jesus Eden Garza.
Miss Pilotos Train (BP Wagon Train-Pilotos Fast Dash), with jockey Ricardo Hernandez Jr. aboard, rallied late for third. Trained by Ray Robbins, the bay filly—a three-time winner—is a Louisiana homebred for Mike Inscore.
Miss Apolitical (Apollitical Blood-Miss Mallard Struts), Jes Winnin Cartel (Five Bar Cartel-Jes Winnin), Louisiana Pretty (The Louisiana Cartel- Jess Pretty In Black), RF Debs Dash N Blue (Jess Louisiana Blue-Fast Dash N Deb), Mrs Kennedy TLC (The Louisiana Cartel-Time For The Senator), and Chartreuse Blue (Jess Louisiana Blue-Black Rosalita) completed the order of finish.
