Easy Jet Stakes-RG3
FACING THE FIRE
by Michael Compton
Facing The Fire has done just what his name implies in his young career, and now has two stakes victo- ries to show for it after capturing the $45,000 Easy Jet
Stakes-RG3 at Remington Park on May 30. Winner of the Remington Park Juvenile Stakes
in his previous start, Facing The Fire jumped
right back into the deep end in the Easy Jet, facing nine rivals, including undefeated Remington Park Futurity winner Eye Work For You, who was sent off as the odds-on favorite. A poor break from that rival, however, left Facing The Fire alone in the lead after the gates opened for the 350-yard test.
With jockey Jimmy Brooks aboard, Facing The Fire maintained a clear advantage through the lane and hit the finish line 1-length to the good of runner- up First Lucy Lark (Im A Fancy PYC-First Ginlark). Andrew Samaniego rode the second-place finisher for owner Dustin Cox and trainer Rex Brooks.
In making it back-to-back stakes scores, Facing The Fire stopped the timer in :17.653, earning an 86 speed index for owner/trainer Eddie Willis, who has now won the Easy Jet Stakes four times in his illustri- ous career. The $26,730 winner’s share of the purse increased Facing The Fire’s bankroll to $74,053.
Alona James bred Facing The Fire out of DM Sashay N Fire. She has produced 100% money earners from four starters. Facing The Fire is her first stakes winner.
Willis also sent out third-place finisher A Political Passion (Apollitical Jess-Passion For Corona) with Justine Klaiber riding for owner James Sills.
DF Fabulous Maiden (One Fabulous Eagle- Coronas Ice Maiden), Eye Work For You (Coronas Leaving You-Eye Love It), Coronados Lady Echo (Coronado Cartel-Peppermint’s Echo TB), Ferarri
B (Freighttrain B-Ferarri Fast Prize), Stone Kaster (Apollitical Jess-Anita Fajita), Class E Cartel (Coronado Cartel-Hiclass Kamikaze) and Jessies Brown Eaglet (One Fabulous Eagle-OK Blue Jessie) followed.

DF LORD GARVAN
by Michael Compton
DF Lord Garvan ruled over eight rivals in the $50,000 Boyd Morris Memorial Stakes-RG3 at Remington Park on May 25, hitting his best stride
late to take top prize in the 400-yard test. Ridden by Mario Delgado, DF Lord Garvan
lifted his head at the break and came out running in fifth position. He rallied strongly in the lane, col- laring dueling leaders VF Jedi Returns and Charlies Fury close to home to post a narrow victory over the sloppy track. He defeated Charlies Fury by a head to register the first stakes score of his career and stopped the timer in a new stakes-record time of :19.250, earning a 102 speed index.
Owned by Darling Farms and trained by Casey Black, DF Lord Garvan improved his record to five wins, including three straight, from 15 starts. The $27,600 winner’s share of the purse increased his bankroll to $75,784.
Kelly/Yearsley Equine LLC bred DF Lord Garvan out of AQHA Juvenile Challenge Championship-G2 winner Three Green Leaves. She has produced 15 winners from 22 starters, including top earner Celtic Emblem, who won the Easy Jet Stakes-RG3. DF Lord Garvan is her third stakes winner.
Runner-up Charlies Fury (Furyofthewind-Jess Charlena), with Agustin Silva aboard for owners Tom and Kathleen McNally and trainer Michelle Hurdle, just missed in a game effort as the race favorite.
James Flores piloted third place finisher Eye N Capo (Capo De Capi-Satisfeyen) for owner Ruben Garcia Montemayor and trainer Ramon Mendoza.
VF Jedi Returns (High Rate of Return-Corona Culture), Tough To Bee (Apollitical Jess-Peppermint Seis), Watah Flash (First Moonflash-Lotawatah), JK Wildcat Red (One Dashing Eagle-Shaky Girl), Ferrari James (Ivory James-Ferarri Fast Prize) and Uptown Dynasty (Mr Jess Perry-Ms Southern Dynasty) com- pleted the field.
