 he was named the Champion Breeder. The Burns’ bred runners Powerful Favorite and Runforyourlife made a major contribution to the Burns Ranch breeder earnings of $3,241,760. The influence of Burns Ranch carried over when Rosenthal Ranch LLC was named the 2019 Champion Owners. They are the owners of Powerful Favorite and Runforyourlife, and these two contrib- uted a major part to the Rosenthal Ranch racetrack earnings of $1,064,854. Chris O’Dell is the trainer for these two runners, and they helped him earn $2,105,020 to become the 2019 Champion Trainer.
The Burns Ranch mare Remember Me Rose is the common denominator in the naming of these three 2019 AQHA Champions. She is the dam of Powerful Favorite and Runforyourlife, and the suc- cess of these two runners, as well as her other runners Intense Fire, The Revenant, Remember The Rose, Allyson Felix, Monster Hand and Forgot The Rose, led to Remember Me Rose being named the 2019 Speedhorse Broodmare of the Year. Earlier this year Remember Me Rose also received the James V.A. Carter Award
for Outstanding Broodmare at the 2019 PCQHRA Awards Banquet.
When I asked Dr. Burns how he started out, he replied, “I grew up around racing Quarter Horses and when I went to vet school, the goal was always get back into the horse business. Shortly after I got out of vet school,
I got a job at Graham Farms at Gardendale, Texas. Then went from there to Legacy Ranch in Chino, California, then I worked for the Double Bar S Ranch as the resident veterinar- ian, and then we started Burns Ranch. It was what I wanted to do.”

Steve and Jo Burns accept the 2019 James V.A. Carter Award for Outstanding Broodmare at the PCQHRA Banquet earlier this year.
