When I asked Dr. Burns how he picked his mares for his broodmare band, he explained, “We like those that have a great race record, or are well known, or one that has produced a good one. Then we mainly breed our mares to our ranch stallions.”
Remember Me Rose fits that criteria as Dr. Burn elaborated, “Remember Me Rose was a famous race mare.” He then added, “She was in a sheriff’s dispersal, and my good buddy James Markum and I bought her at that sale. She hadn’t produced much to that point, but she crossed really good with Favorite Cartel, so we got her in the right spot.”
Remember Me Rose started her journey to become a famous race mare in Oklahoma. She was bred by the MLA International Company of Stigler, Oklahoma. She was pur- chased as yearling by Azoom LP of Veracruz, Mexico, and she raced in their colors. She started her race career in Mexico City, winning her maiden and then the Mexico Juvenile Challenge. She made her next start in the Rainbow Futurity trials, which she won and then came in second in the Grade 1 finals with jockey Esgar Ramirez in the irons. She was trained by Ben Torres. Her next start came in the All American Futurity trials, where she finished second and qualified for the finals. She finished fifth in the finals, with No Secrets Here the winner.
The next start for Remember Me Rose came with a win in the AQHA Juvenile Challenge Championship-G2 at Lone
Star Park. She came back in her next start
at Zia Park to win the Southwest Juvenile Championship. Then she went to Sunland Park for the trials of the Sunland Park Winter Futurity-G2, securing a win in both the trials and the finals. The trials for the Sunland Park Winter Futurity were her last start in 2006,
as the actual futurity was run in January of 2007. She finished 2006 with nine starts, six wins and two seconds, earning $444,181.
She won the Sunland Park Winter Futurity on January 7, 2007. She did not return to the races until May with a fourth in the trials to
