Retama Park Derby
DA DEVIL MADE MEDOIT
by John Moorehouse
Da Devil Made Medoit added a stakes win to his record with his victorious effort in the $207,950 Retama Park Derby on July 31.
Tooter Jordan and several longtime friends combined to run the three-year-old gelding under the Geri J Partnership, named for his wife Geri Jordan. Also training Da Devil Made Medoit, Jordan went to a yearling sale to purchase the horse. The person he was buying for then changed his mind
about owning the horse. Geri opposed the idea of Jordan completing the purchase.
“To make my wife under- stand I was kind of against the wall, I changed his name to Da Devil Made Medoit. If she asked why, I bought the horse, that’s what I’d say.”
“I knew he was a heck of a good colt,” Jordan said. “If you looked at his form, you could see. He just got run

over all but one time. He would go around horses and run second—against good horses.”
“We brought him to Houston and he was 100% sound,” Jordan added. “We won two races with him prior to the trials. We knew that we were running fast enough to qualify. Then he came back and measured it out a little better and won the final.”
A strong finish propelled Da Devil Made Medoit to this breakthrough
victory. He broke from the 9-post and was in fifth going into the stretch, running down his rivals to hit the wire first by a 1/2-length. Jerry Yoakum did the riding, completing the 400-yard trip in :19.875 for a 107 speed index.
“I can’t give any credit to anyone but the horse,” Jordan stated. “He’s a hell of an individual.”

RUNAWAY WITCH
by Danny Camp
Second fastest qualifier Runaway Witch stepped it up in the $119,100 Bitterroot Futurity-RG3 at Pocatello Downs on July 30 to score her 4th victory to remain undefeated. The filly broke well from the 6-post under Guillermo Suarez. They slipped into second place at the half way point, but were able to rally to win by a nose at the wire.
Trained by Javier Duarte, Runaway Witch completed the 350 yards in :17.621 for a 96 speed index.
The daughter of Sir Runaway Dash earned the first place check, which was worth $47,640 for owner CB Stables and the sorrel filly can now brag about a total bankroll worth $50,407.
Tyler Graham and Robert Touchet bred Runaway Witch out of multiple winner Im A Lil Witch. She has produced 100% winners from five
starters, including New Track Record setter Tempting Lil Witch. Runaway Witch is her first stakes winner and top earner.
“This filly came out of the Oklahoma sale,” said trainer Javier Duarte. “She is very chill; she is a good doer and a pleasure to be around. She is a quiet stall horse and a rocking horse to gallop.
“She is still green and hasn’t come into her- self yet,” he continued. “She ran a great trial
heat and a gritty final. We still think it’s too early to tell which direction to go with her. We are leaning towards Albuquerque.”
Fastest qualifier from the July 16 trials, B The One (Five Bar Cartel-Kt Perry) and jockey Cesar Moreno had the lead at mid race and held on to bank second place money for owner CB Stables and trainer Javier Duarte. The colt won the Beehive
Futurity and the Hadley/Giles Futurity earlier this year.
Zoomin For Trix (Zoomin For Bux-Doing Trix) tied for the tenth fastest qualifying time and had to win the shake to get in. She made the best of it by banking third place money under Cesar Franco for owner Walker Family Trust and trainer Monty Arrossa. The filly won the Roche Equine Veterinary Services Futurity earlier this year.
Perry (Sizzlin Cartel-Jess Kashmere), Harts Hero (One Valiant Hero-Centercurlincash), Five Bars Happy (Five Bar Cartel-Jm Onfire), Mound Valley Eagle (One Fabulous Eagle- Royal Fooseperrypie), Too Taboo (One Fabulous Eagle-Strictly Taboo), Katie Perry (Five Bar Cartel-Sexy Perry) and Magnana Miss (One Fabulous Eagle-Shazumba) completed the order of finish.
