 Mystic Lake Northlands Futurity
TRUE
by Jess Johnson
True, in the truest of race form, found his way to the winner’s circle in Canterbury Park’s richest race, the $137,100 Mystic Lake Northlands Futurity in Shakopee, Minnesota on Aug. 11.
True broke last in the field of nine, with a 15 mph headwind but was quick to find a clear path to victory under jockey Ramiro Garcia. True showed a late surge and covered 350-yards in :18.086. He earned a speed
index of 86 and took home
$57,582 along with his first
stakes win for his efforts.
Owned and trained by Hipolito Michel-Valverde, True, a 2019 bay colt bred
by Lila Kessinger in Texas, was a $21,000 Heritage Place Yearling Sale purchase. He was the 3rd fastest qualifier coming into the finals and was slightly overlooked by bettors on race day, going off at 7 to 1.
Oneida County Fair Futurity
Sired by Seperate Interest, True is out of Love Ya Miss Jess, a 19-year-old Mr Jess Perry daughter who has produced 13 race winners out of 15 to go to the track.
“When I started him, he was very green. I thought, this baby is nice, but I need to go slow,” said Michel-Valverde following the victory. “I like him, you just can’t push him too much. His first race he was very green. But you know, we
needed experience for the trials. He came back good and strong after the trials and I felt like
he could be really tough in the finals. Tonight, he ran good
for me.”
With only three career
starts, the two-time winner will go to Colorado next and run Sept. 17 in the Mile High Futurity trials.
Homebred, Hes Resilient, a brown gelding by Hes Relentless and out of No Excuses, finished
2nd for Glacia Fagan. Stormy Smith was aboard for trainer Vic Hanson. Hes Resilient broke his maiden in the trials and came into the finals as the 4th fastest qualifier. Second fastest qualifier Tres Elegance, bred by Flag Ranch LLC and owned by Angelica Aleman-Rodriguez, was 3rd for trainer Edward Ross Hardy with L. Salvador Martinez in the irons. The $20,000 Heritage Place Yearling Sale bay colt is sired by Tres Seis and out of JA Jess Elegance. Tres Elegance broke fastest and led at first call but was out finished at the wire. Followed by Nvincable (Ivory James - Valiant Red Vixen), Bring Back My Vodka (Triple Vodka - Dr Runaway Bride), Eye Live for Candy (A Revenant - Eyesa Candy Maker), Eyem The Man Delfin (One Famous Man - BV Eye Need Your Luv), Maudest Maven (Apollitical Jess - Madresita) and Hes Tuff Enuff (Pyc Paint Your Wagon - Her Sweet Choice).
Raced in Idaho and Utah, Chicks Dashin Bandit has won two of five starts and has earned $10,918. His resume includes a third- place finish in the June 20, $20,925 Roche Equine Veterinary Services Futurity, and he won Oneida County Fair Futurity trial by 1-length
Second-placed Momys Little Corona (Slew’s Prince-DDS Corona Prospect) earned $3,100 for her owner Juan Hernandez. Jesus Flores rode the homebred filly for trainer Glen Jamison.
Magou (Turbulent Times-Mags Rambling Moon) ran third, 1/2-length behind Chicks Dashin Bandit, for owner CB Stables. Jesus Canales rode the bay Wyoming-bred gelding for trainer Terrill Tsosie.

by Michael Cusortelli
Chicks Dashin Bandit, a homebred son of the Corona Cartel stallion Coronas Fast Dash owned by Five Livestock Company LLC, scored
a wire-to-wire victory in the Aug. 8 Oneida County Fair Futurity at Malad City, Idaho.
Trained by Monty Arrossa and ridden by Jesus Virgen, Chicks Dashin Bandit covered 300-yards in :15.778, and his winning margin was a nose from Momys Little Corona.
The sorrel gelding earned an 82 speed index and the $6,975 winner’s
share of the $15,500 purse,
the richest of the four-day
Oneida County Fair meet. Chicks Dashin Bandit set
the seventh-fastest qualify- ing time when he broke his maiden with a 1/2-length win in one of three Oneida County Fair Futurity trials on July 31.
The gelding was bred in Idaho, and he is out of First Prize Chicks, a
