Yellow Rose Fillies Derby
FANCY MAMASITA
by John Moorehouse
Fancy Mamasita came flying late to secure victory in the $10,200 Yellow Rose Fillies Derby, held Aug. 21 at White Pine Racing in
Ely, Nevada.
A heavy favorite at less than even-money
odds at post time, Flying Mamasita broke in emerging from the No. 2 gate and was running third going into the stretch. Jockey Julian Zavala urged the filly to make a big finish, chasing down her
rivals to hit the wire first by a 1/2-length margin.
Trained by Adrian Zavala, Flying Mamasita finished the 300-yard trip in :15.870, posting an 88 speed index despite running into a 12 mph headwind.
Miguel Zavala owns and bred Flying Mamasita, a three-year-old bay filly. She got to the winner’s circle for the third time in a six-race
career, and the $5,610 payday from the race increased her lifetime earnings to $14,710. Flying Mamasita made her debut in her home state of Utah, then made a couple of
starts during the meet at Wyoming Downs before heading over to White Pine in Nevada.
The filly broke her maiden in her second start with a 1-length victory at Laurel Brown and then won an allowance race at Wyoming
Downs before this victory. Zavala bred Fancy
Mamacita out of winner
Miss Flying Jessie. She has produced 100% winners from three starters. Giorgina is her top earner, winning nine races.
Her second dam is mul- tiple winner KJ Streakin Jill, who was a runner-up in the 2002 Intermountain Futurity at Elko County Fair, White Glove Delivery Futurity at Dixie Downs, as well as the
Los Alamitos Prep Futurity at Laurel Brown. She is a half-sister to 2003 Intermountain Futurity Division 1 winner KJ Sreakin Lindy.
Her third dam is Streakin Chloe, who won the Silver Dollar Derby-RG3 and was a runner-up in the Boise Derby-G3. AG & F Derby and Elko County Fair Derby. She has produced eight winners from 10 starters.
TM Full Steam (Freighttrain B-Racy Belladona), at 10-1 odds, finished second
for Two The Max Investments LLC. Treece Figueroa is the trainer and Jose Figueroa drew the riding assignment.
Already stakes-placed, Eyez Of Cartel (Five Bar Cartel-Angel Eyez) hit the board in third place for Michael McKell. Sergio Canales is the trainer and Jesus Canales was in the irons.
The remaining order of finish was TM Racy Return (High Rate of Return-Racy Belladona), Cartels Breakout (Agouti-Jess Breakout), and EB Prismatic (Monsta Dash- E.B. Donajur TB).
